men backpacking along the highway

I see men backpacking along the highway and in town some times with a dog.

why are men backpacking along the highway thay will get where there going faster on a bicycle.

is this what men do on vacation.

My guess is that they are trying to get somewhere, don't have a car or a bicycle, and are down on their luck.

They have no bicycle. Oops, Dave already said that. Maybe they want a ride.

Maybe they're enjoying the journey rather than the destination? They could be feeling closer to nature. It may make them feel rugged. Less reliant on technology, there could be hundreds of reasons...?

they're probably escaped mental patients.
there is a human head, one butcher knife and his prison-orange, blood-splattered institutional jumper in the back pack. along with his manifesto, dictated to him by a shadow under his bed and inscribed on toilet paper roll.
if he's an organized criminal you might find road snacks and a juice box.

if you pull over he'll kill you. or rape you.
or kill you, then rape you.
