Guys of all orientations "experimenting": How common is it really?
Hello, I've been lurking this site for a while now and I finally decided to make a profile. Since being on this site and reading the comments I've often been wondering after the topic of guys "experimenting" homosexually without actually being gay. Women get away with it in this society and from I could see are thought of as the only gender who does experiment. But since browsing this site and seeing some comments I've wondered if that's actually true...and so on to my question.

I read in Kinsey that about 40% of guys had a same-sex experience before while for women it was only 20%. I think now the numbers for women are higher while for men iit's around the same since society hasn't tolerated it any better. We never hear about it though. But on here, gay guys are always sayig how many "straight' guys they've been with so I'm wondering which gender really experimenents more. So do you guys think guys experiment with homosexuality as much as girls or even more than girls, but NEVER ever tell anyone about it?

I'm curious as to what gay or bi guys think about this topic.

I agree with that! Or even think about it and never tell anyone!

I know of no solid data on the subject but suspect that Kinsey's 40% figure is probably reasonable when you throw in all the guys who had youthful "experiments" a time, or two, or a few back before settling down to a monogamous heterosexual relationship. From my own experience in playing with "straight" guys I'd make a wild guess that it's more like 10% of that population who continue to "experiment" through their adult lives. But I do believe that the percentages would definitely be higher if there were greater societal tolerance for such behavior.

i don't think anyone knows. i think these are all unanswerable questions. there are statistics from kinsey, etc., but they don't represent people on an individual level.

They aren't really unanswerable questions. Getting guys to be honest about a subject that is uncomfortable is the challenge. My experience with guys that experimented represents the smallest fraction of the male gender, so using ones own experience isn't really scientifically sound.

I guess this makes sense. The world may never know

I personally have never had any interest in experimenting with men.

I did however catch two of my straight male friends in high-school coming out of the attic, both in tighty whiteys. I have no idea what the hell was going on, but I'm pretty sure it was homo-sexual in nature.

I've done erotic massage for almost 30 years. Most ( 70%) have been with men who aren't gay. I've had many thousands of clients over the many years. What is shocking is the number of men who wait till they are middle aged or older to have their first experience with men. They often confess that this is a new interest and it never occurred to them before. The only men who don't want to play during the massage are gay and in a relationship. Every "straight" man I've worked on wanted to fool around to some extent. EVERY one! My guess from my conversations is that I was the first time with a man having sex for about a quarter at least of my clients. My guess from my experience is there are many more bi men than there are exclusively gay or straight men. Surveys taken of men's sexual experience when they are in their 20's are often inadequate. Most of the bi clients I talked to over the years say they didn't have their first experience with a guy until they were in their thirties. If I went on Oprah almost no one in her audience would believe me.

I am wondering why it is more socially acceptable for girls if guys do it even moreso! Why do you think this is?

Men are very concerned about what other men think about them. A woman is still a woman if she eats a pussy. A man is a fag if he sucks dick... to many men in American culture. A man has to prove himself. A woman gets a period and has babies to prove she is female. Masculinity sits uncomfortably with many men in male/ male sex situations. That is why in many cultures such as Mexico, a high percentage of young men can be had if you offer them a small fee so they can say they are doing it for money. Same reason why it is so easy to find gay for pay pornstars.

Very good reply, thank you. I am wondering where in the first place that the idea or all gay men being feminine originated. I mean, most gay men I have met are just like normal guys, so who created the idea of being a gay guy means losing your masculinity? Or is it just the concept of getting f*cked instead of f*cking is feminine?

Just my random thoughts.

SevenV: I completely agree with you and jdoe86. But I would go further and agree with Capitolhillguy on his analysis of the confusion causede by men in male to male sexual experimentation and a "repressed desire" for expressing it--just so other people don't know!

I really wonder how many men have not fantasized on cock comparisons or sex acts and have repressed them because of the taboos/negative labels? Who wants to be labeled a "faggot" or any label that carries a negative connotation in our current society?

I may be an exception as I don't mind being called a cocksucker-- because that is what I am and love to do!
