I have been experiencing the pleasures of edging for many years. In fact when I'm not doing it I like talking about it. I mainly got into it because I found as I got older the act of having a self induced full orgasm left me feeling really deflated, and this so called recovery period was getting longer and longer, sometimes extending into days.
For me there are two forms of edging. One is just low level stroking (which I am doing as I write this) where I have no intention of cumming but can keep myself pleasantly aroused. I start off at the lower level but take myself much higher up the arousal scale. After a while I find a kind of rhythm and touch to the stroking where I no longer need to stop and start. The arousal feelings spread to other parts of my body....my ass, nipples, even taste become turned on. If I truly get engrossed in the act then the passage of time goes out of the window. My stroking (or whatever toy I'm using) becomes more intense. My threshold to orgasm increases, and I start to feel almost invincible to it. I use pelvic muscle clamping (kegels) to control my response, and in some cases I can actually kegel myself back from an otherwise certain orgasm. Sometimes this form of edging is called gooning. To the observer, the gooner is lost in his world of self induced pleasure, almost detached from reality. If I get it right, and I don't always manage it, this level of arousal goes beyond anything I've experienced with partner sex.
I often end this kind of edging session without cumming. If I've spent the morning edging, then for the rest of the day I feel happier, more alert and more physically active. My thoughts are definitely more positive. I love having a hard gym work out after edging, I always run further or lift heavier after a session. Do I ever cum?
