I can't stand it when guys cross their legs thighxthigh. They're always the total dooshes too. It's not manly, and it's always the snobby or flamers who do it. Leg over Knee isn't effeminate, but seriously thighxthigh=vagina.

After learning that leg-crossing could (yeah, the possibility) restrict blood circulation to the lower extremities (how much lower, passed the groin?) I've broken my habit of leg-crossing. I may be a health and good form fanatic, but it's the only bod I have and I intend to take care of it, perhaps to the extreme.

btw, any of you watch "The Doctors" and see Travis Stork sit with his legs spread. He's 6'5", so they extend 'way out there, yeah, far over in front of those on either side. Whata view! Like he's thinking "have a good look at my junk"!

If I'm at home, or on anyone's sofa, I generally sit in a figure 4 cross - i.e one ankle over the knee.

Apparently, this is a crotch display - inviting females & challenging males. I dunno - it just seems comfortable to me.

Knee to knee - that would get irritating - fast! There's no doubt it squashes your junk.

I'm female and often sit with my legs crossed at work. In my experience, the circulation restriction usually occurs in my top foot, and I have to make sure it's woken up properly before standing up. Not sure how this bears on blood flow to genitalia! Circulation restriction can also happen if you're wearing tight trousers, because of the bunched fabric pressing on the front of the hip joint.

I'm not flexible enough to go leg fully over the other one. Plus, if I can get in that position is squeezes my balls uncomfortable.

Seems to me Euro dudes prefer this a lot more to American dudes. I have one American friend who sits like this and I know he has a small package. Must make it easier.

I do put my ankle over my knee sometimes, no pain issues there.

What shame are they hiding?

Hiding your shame means keeping your privates (genitals) covered. Because such things are shameful, obvs.

And crackoff, I would have thought legs wide open is more of a crotch display.

Also, I was sort of joking when I made this thread. Not necessarily saying that men who cross their legs have small penises but that it seems uncomfortable and to an extent unmasculine to me.

And females are allowed to sit with their legs crossed. They do it to hide their shame also I think. To stop pervs getting a view of the inbetweeny bits.

Interesting, judging from quite a few of the responses here I gather that many of you haven't ever sat in a boardroom or given a high level briefing or been in any number of situations where men are all sitting around in chairs staring at one another. Men cross their legs all the time unless they're overweight or have heavily muscled thighs. It has everything to do with positioning and posing in the above situations and nothing to with 'hiding your shame'. There are casual leg crosses (ankle to knee) and there are business ones (thigh over thigh). Generally, sitting in front of someone and exposing your crotch to them is considered bad form and so slouching with your legs wide open would make you look like a moron and lazy to boot. Sitting with both feet planted on the floor in such situations makes you look stiff. Crossed legs are for exhibiting relaxation and confidence especially in formal/business settings. The only time I ever see someone with both feet planted on the floor in a meeting is when they're leaning forward on a table. Or are you just trolling? I can't really tell.

Yes, women cross their legs to keep from giving a crotch shot, not because it's feminine.

I don't know what happened to you in your youth, but your body is nothing to be ashamed of. If I cross my legs, it's out of comfort, not because I'm ashamed of my genitals. I've never heard of such a thing. Are you really covering up your shame or are you just pulling my proverbial third leg?

I never knew crossing your legs created so many social / personal issues. What does crossing your arms mean? Nevermind it will just open another can of social worms. Slimmy, slithering critters.

I cross my legs. You be the judge.
This pretty much settles the argument for me.

As a kid, when I switched once, yes ONCE, from ankle-over-thigh to thigh-over-thigh, my Dad went off on me, about that being the way that women cross. Men cross ankle-over-thigh, unless they're not American (this clarified, when I pointed to pics of his late father ((British/Canadian)), with legs crossed like a "woman").

Later, when I started wearing kilts more, typically, I at least cross my ankles. Not an issue of shame to sit with my legs open, but more one of decency, especially after a few times when I was unaware, and heard, "Hey! Put that away!"

In jeans, I'm just as often legs-spread, as legs-crossed, if not more so.

Vanir23 i quite agree with your take on this issue.
However, i would be glad to get a few more opinions from the ladies. The reason being that lately, my girl has started asking me to stop crossing my legs. When i asked her why, she said it's feminine.
Ladies, is that really how it comes across? (No pun intended.)

Crossing your arms is universal body language. It is a defensive posture assumed by either sex. It can mean different things based on context but its always defensive.

Well right at this minute I have my legs crossed at the ankles, and I might sometimes sit with one ankle resting on the other thigh if I'm reading or something. I don't think either are effeminate. Crossing them above the knee would be uncomfortable for me but although my penis is a bit above average the discomfort comes from the weight of one leg on the other. I don't think it looks unusual though if a guy does it and I doubt penis size plays much of a part in any case.

. . . or perhaps done for warmth, especially when wearing short sleeves when the weather has suddenly become cooler. Arms snuggling the warmer body feels pretty good sometimes.

Hiding your shame is not being ashamed of your genitals. In this scenario, it refers to the "scandalous" part of the definition of shameful. Genitalia can be quite scandalous.

Pardon me while I wax vociferous but really...who gives a flying rat's ass? If some dude wants to cross his legs that's a-ok with me. I give him full permission to do so without passing judgment on the size of his dick, his moral worth, or what it all means. Life's too short, man, life's too short...

Ah hah

How The Legs Reveal What The Mind Wants To Do

Note the American Figure 4 leg cross. Mine is a variation on this with my foot, or ankle on the knee. A behaviouralist would say that this was because I was comfortable & keen on displaying my genitalia!

It also suggests argumentative & competitive traits. Hmm, do you think they're onto something there!

It's a great way to get up quickly & in a masculine way too(you can spring up like a Ninja on meth), though I don't think that outside of wearing sports gear one should ever strike this pose in white socks!
