I keep seeing reports here and there that MJ is in his last days. His biographer came forward with the story and his family is neither confirming nor denying it. Is anyone on this board in the "know" a bit on this or have something a bit more concrete?

Here are some of the latest health and medical news developments, compiled by editors of HealthDay:
Michael Jackson Said to Need Lung Transplant
Michael Jackson, the self-proclaimed King of Pop, needs a lung transplant because he's suffering from a rare respiratory condition, according to the author of a new Jackson biography.
Author Ian Halperin told In Touch magazine and Britain's Sunday Express newspaper that the reclusive performer may even be fighting for his life, the Houston Chronicle newspaper reported on its Web site.
Halperin said Jackson has been diagnosed with Alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency, an occasionally fatal genetic condition.
"He's had it for years, but it's gotten worse,'' Halperin told In Touch. "He needs a lung transplant but may be too weak to go through with it. He also has emphysema and chronic gastrointestinal bleeding, which his doctors have had a lot of trouble stopping. It's the bleeding that is the most problematic part. It could kill him,'' according to the Chronicle.

Jackson "can barely speak" and "the vision in his left eye is 95 percent gone," Halperin said.
Jackson's spokesman was unavailable for comment Sunday. But the singer's brother Jermaine didn't deny the reports, telling Fox News, "He's not doing so well right now. This isn't a good time," the Chronicle reported.
Dr. Len Horovitz, a pulmonary specialist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, treated Jackson at Lenox Hill in 1999.
"Alpha-1-anti-trypsin deficiency is a relatively rare genetic disorder that becomes apparent in young adulthood and early middle age, especially if smoking is added to the equation," Horovitz said in a hospital news release. "The liver can also be affected, causing cirrhosis. The disease produces an early-onset emphysema, just as one might see in an older smoker. Treatment for mild or moderate cases involves infusions of a specific medication. In advanced stages, a lung transplant may be necessary.
"Since this is a genetic disorder, other members of the Jackson family must be tested for this genetic variant," Horovitz added.

Isn't he being sued by the Sultan of Brunei's son? How convenient for him to suddenly have all of these ailments. I guess he'll be showing up in court in his PJ's again... and his IV and his nurses and maybe a heart resuscitator.

This guy has more rare conditions than anyone to have walked the planet. It must be true; we'd have seen a musical comeback attempt by now considering all of his financial woes.

Michael Jackson's latest courtship is kaput.
Fresh off yesterday's news that the entertainer reached a tentative settlement in the ultimately short-lived $7 million breach-of-contract lawsuit brought by a Bahrain royal comes word that a formal resolution has been finalized.
"We are very pleased to announce an amicable settlement has been reached on confidential terms," Sheik Abdulla Bin Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa's attorney, Bankim Thanki, told London's High Court this morning.
After the announcement, both legal teams briefly conferred in private before releasing a joint statement: "They wish each other well in their own respective endeavors."
The rep for Al-Khalifa, who considered Jackson a "brother," albeit one he had no problem suing, said the terms of their settlement would remain on the down-low.
"They have settled amicably and that's all we have to say."
Al-Khalifa was seeking more than $7 million in repayment from the erstwhile King of Pop for advance payments made toward an unfulfilled recording contract and various living and legal expenses.

Aren't we all dying?

I don't know what to make of Mike at times. He's a musical whiz, but I don't understand the persona he created. He's always portrayed himself as the years went by as a weak guy who needs attention and special care. Now if he does have a lung disease, I hope he gets well. I'm still waiting for the Jacksons reunion album!

What a star-crossed life.
He's 50, right?
Somehow it just seems part of his storyline to die about now.
I hope the story's not true.

But I don't see why that biographer would be party to a fraud of this sort. Wouldn't surprise me if Jackson really is dying.

He is the greatest of all time

Neg-a-tive.

Dude owes everything to Quincy Jones. Lest you forget MJ is no Bob Dylan, and a historic songwriter or musician he is not. 124 million albums under the Q's formula.

At least The Eagles album just passed Thriller on all-time sales.

The only thing he played was tinkering on bottles on "Don't Stop Til' You Get Enough", snapping fingers, and that damn stomp board in "Wanna Be Startin' Something", but he is a singer and dancer. Anybody recalled the incident between Sony and his 2001 album, Invisible, not selling as high as it should and called it racism. Crazy. He's a genius, but he's no Einstein at words.
