As OP I welcome the discussion of the 2012 presidential race in terms of issues, dynamics, the electorate, and particularly in terms of other potential candidates -- Republican, Teabag, Democrat, or otherwise -- who might present a challenge to the president. In fact, I kinda thought (and sorta hoped) it might open up this wider discussion. However, let's not abandon the star of the thread entirely, Ms. Michele Marie Bachmann.

[btw, here's some trivia for ya: Did you know she was once Fox & Friends co-host (and Miss Minnesota '89) Gretchen Carlson's babysitter? I kid you not.]

So without further ado and as I promised, the Bachman policy statements:
She (Sara Benincasa) hasn't got such good material as she had when she did her Sarah Palin act, but she uses almost the same accent.
Please, there's never a dearth of good material with Michele. The only question is who'll get to play her on SNL.

Here are some classics. Enjoy. :biggrin2:

Some of my personal faves from the linked list. (I know, so hard to choose):
1. ''(Gay marriage) is probably the biggest issue that will impact our state and our nation in the last, at least, thirty years. I am not understating that.

2. “During the last 100 days we have seen an orgy. It would make any local smorgasbord embarrassed … The government spent its wad by April 26".

4. ''I want people in Minnesota armed and dangerous on this issue of the energy tax because we need to fight back".

5. ''Carbon dioxide is portrayed as harmful. But there isn't even one study that can be produced that shows that carbon dioxide is a harmful gas."

9. ''[Pelosi] is committed to her global warming fanaticism to the point where she has said she has even said she is trying to save the planet. We all know that someone did that 2,000 years ago."

15. ''And what a bizarre time we're in, when a judge will say to little children that you can't say the pledge of allegiance, but you must learn that homosexuality is normal and you should try it."

18. ''If we took away the minimum wage — if conceivably it was gone — we could potentially virtually wipe out unemployment completely because we would be able to offer jobs at whatever level."

21. ''There are hundreds and hundreds of scientists, many of them holding Nobel Prizes, who believe in intelligent design."

22. ''I don't know where they're going to get all this money because we're running out of rich people in this country."

23. ''This is an earthquake issue. This will change our state forever. Because the immediate consequence, if gay marriage goes through, is that K-12 little children will be forced to learn that homosexuality is normal, natural and perhaps they should try it."

27. “Lady Liberty and Sarah Palin are lit by the same torch."

16. ''Michael Steele! You be da man! You be da man!''??? (To the former Republican National Committee Chairman -- a straightlaced African American. Please imagine her saying this in her Minnesooohtn accent.)

28. “The big thing we are working on now is the global warming hoax. Its all voodoo, nonsense, hokum, a hoax

31. “I just take the Bible for what it is, I guess, and recognize that I am not a scientist, not trained to be a scientist. I'm not a deep thinker on all of this. I wish I was. I wish I was more knowledgeable, but I'm not a scientist."
Bonus quote, not on the list:
"That's why people need to continue to go to the town halls, continue to melt the phone lines of their liberal members of Congress, and let them know, under no certain circumstances will I give the government control over my body and my health care decisions." -- Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), a pro-lifer who completely missed the irony of using the same slogan as the pro-choice movement in arguing against health care reform.
And who can forget this classic history lesson:
NASHUA, N.H. – U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota stood before New Hampshire Republicans with a tea bag clutched in her hand Saturday, but her grasp on Revolutionary War geography wasn't quite as tight. Before headlining a GOP fundraiser, the possible presidential hopeful told a group of students and conservative activists in Manchester, "You're the state where the shot was heard around the world in Lexington and Concord." But those first shots of the Revolutionary War were fired in Massachusetts,* not New Hampshire.

"So I misplaced the battles Concord and Lexington by saying they were in New Hampshire," Bachmann posted on her Facebook page later."It was my mistake, Massachusetts is where they happened. New Hampshire is where they are still proud of it!"
* Coincidentally, Boston is also in Massachusetts, where the Boston Tea Party occurred, from which the Superpatriot, "we're-better-Americans-because-we-know-our-history-and-the-Constitution-better-than-you" Tea Partiers derive their name. Lawd, the irony! Lawd, the stupidity!!!

LOLOLOLOL! :lmao:

I am paraphrasing badly from somewhere else so bear with me, but Mr. Obama has about a 54% approval rating overseeing these wars with radical muslims, yet it is said 57% of the teabag/republican mouthpieces think he may be a foreign mulsim. So they think he may well be a muslim, but they really like of how he is going about killing muslims?

I screwed that last sentence up royally but, I hope the gist of my quandry was explained. If the haters hate on him for the muslim possibility, how can they say moments later "hmmph yah he has done ok with the wars on extreme muslims"

My question is: why doesn't he produce one then. As you recall the newly elected govenor of hawaii was going to put the issue to rest. Within 5 days..he retracted & said they couldn't find it. So I beg your pardon kind sir. As far as the congress giving it the stamp of approval--checking on that.
Time will tell when the issuance of ballots come about in 2012.
Yes maxcok..back to matter at hand (no pun intended) of this thread.

Who did the poll?
I could do 2 polls about anything controversial n get 2 totally different outcomes depending on who you poll and how you word the question.
I have/give no credance to polls.

As OP of this thread I'm laying down the law on this one point:

There will be no further discussion of birther certificates in this thread. Not to squelch anyone's freedom of speech, but it pops up over and over in these threads, it's been discussed ad nauseum, it's ultimately unproveable one way or the other, and it leads to nothing but derailments, just as it did yesterday in the Trump thread. Anyone who wishes to discuss this is more than welcome to start yet another thread on the topic.

Thanks.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program, the 2012 presidential race and the Queen of the Teabaggers.

generally I don't either. Mrs. Bachman indeed. Let's talk about her ineptitude and foolishness. What did she mistake last wee Mass v Missouri? A quote for max public affect with zero effect? I almost felt bad for her, kind of put all her eggs on that one rallying cry that day and ...it was epic fail in fact. Fact. If your going to strut, and talk loud you best have your quiver loaded and precise. This bird is neither...the string in her back will run out soon enough, she won't have anyone to pull it in a proper debate. Dim Bulb.

Honestly ..I am not a trump fan n I know he was here in Iowa making a big deal of the issue. I am just being a devils advocate about the issue since it was brought up. I differ with my friend vinylboy, however I to had 2 get a new BC in order to get a passport n it was truly a pain in the ass.but I do not doubt it was as simplistic for him to get his as he stated. As previously stated the issuance of candidates names on ballots will be law in several big electoral vote states...so again..time will tell.
Now....as. maxcox as requested.? Back to bachman.

My question is: why doesn't he produce one then.

Because he doesn't have to.

As you recall the newly elected govenor of hawaii was going to put the issue to rest. Within 5 days..he retracted & said they couldn't find it. So I beg your pardon kind sir.

Whatever. We still have the revised one to go by which has been backed by the state of Hawaii and the US Congress. The case is closed. We don't need the original birth certificate from 1961. Only birthers "want" it because he doesn't look or talk like them, and will dream up any illogical excuse necessary to try and scare people into believing that he's "different".

As far as the congress giving it the stamp of approval--checking on that.

You don't have to check far. Congress: Yes, Obama Was Born in Hawaii - Political Hotsheet - CBS News

Time will tell when the issuance of ballots come about in 2012.

Where... in Arizona where they passed legislation requiring anyone to be on a presidential ballot in their state to show a birth certificate? LOL!!! Let me give you a clue as to how irrelevant that is.

Even if by some insane chance that does stand, Obama doesn't provide one, Arizona leaves his name off and the state goes for the Republican candidate (or whomever else runs), that candidate would only receive 10 electoral college points (possibly 11 for 2012). Since a presidential candidate needs roughly 270 points to win, a candidate for president can win the presidency with a minimum of 11 states.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_Many_...residential_candidate_need_to_win_an_election
http://usgovinfo.about.com/blelectoralb.htm

Here are the states and their respected point totals, and please notice that it doesn't include Arizona. - CA-55, TX-34, FL-27, GA-15, NC-15, NJ-15, PA-21, NY-31, OH-20, MI-17, Il-21

But considering the circumstances, since the president's name wouldn't be on the ballot in a state for a federal election, that could be considered to be a form of fraud and those 10 or 11 points would be disqualified. Lastly, Obama didn't win the state of Arizona in 2008, so even if his name was on the ballot there's a good chance he wouldn't win the state anyhow in 2012 even if he hired hookers to give all the men in the state a blow job everyday till election day. Either way you look at it, the birthers would win a symbolic victory to masturbate to while simultaneously doing nothing to impede on Obama's ability to still win a second term and potentially risking their candidate of choice a loss of ten points in the process. Advantage - Obama.

Still think the birth certificate is an issue?

Out of respect to the request to end the discussion in regards to a official document..I am not allowed 2 respond.
Suffice it to say:
If you rely on CBS I feel sorry for you.
Its more than just AZ-& yes states can do that. (You need FL/TX/OH to win any Presidential election.
Mr vinyl I am not a birther, I just like to argue. :)
I yield the thread to maxcok & decline to discuss the issue further.

If you do a Google search, that same news story appears on practically every single news website. I just chose one link. So sorry if you don't approve of the source, however, you haven't provided a single one to defend your claims so beggars can't be choosers.

You don't need them. If you're going to win the presidency with the least amount of states possible you would, however, It is still very possible for a candidate to lose Florida, Texas and Ohio and still mathematically win the election. Those three states only amount to 81 points, and the magic number is 270. With 47 other states offering a grand total of 457 electoral points, even if Florida, Texas and Ohio did something as stupid as Arizona the advantage doesn't change... especially when you consider that Texas will most likely go to a Republican anyhow and we all know the potential of fraud if a state interferes with a federal election. Texas has the second highest electoral college total. With California usually going Democrat, Republicans would need to make sure everything in Texas went through with absolutely no flaws. They couldn't risk trying to do something shady there because no Republican in the history of modern day elections have won the presidency without Texas. Do the math.

Mr vinyl I am not a birther, I just like to argue. :)

Find better things to argue about. Birtherism is a dead an illogical topic.

I yield the thread to maxcok & decline to discuss the issue further.

I really don't want to talk about it either. However, I do feel a duty to put out any of the birther flames in political threads whenever they emerge.

Let's not forget the Newt:

I have two grandchildren — Maggie is 11, Robert is 9. I am convinced that if we do not decisively win the struggle over the nature of America, by the time they're my age they will be in a secular atheist country, potentially one dominated by radical Islamists and with no understanding of what it once meant to be an American.
Newt Gingrich at the Cornerstone Church, San Antonio, March 26, 2011, as reported in Politico) :crazy2:

I don't know what makes you call him "nuts" or "crazy." I don't see that he has changed at all over the duration of his political career. He has absolutely no character and will profess whatever beliefs he thinks likely to advance his interests.

Yah, but before he was a Protestant, and now he's a Catholic. Totally different! (somehow....)

Anyway. Does anyone here know if Michelle Bachman is smarter than this turnip?

Well one thing that seems a little crazy is the quoted statement that, "by the time they're my age they will be in a secular atheist country, potentially one dominated by radical Islamists".

How could a country be secular, atheist, and dominated by radical Islam at the same time?

Or am I missing something and this type of nonsense was always the norm for this ex-Speaker of the House?
