Over the past few weeks, I've noticed the 18-30 (college age) membership balloon during the day. And it lasts into the afternoon. Our local university is still online only until the 14th. It will be interesting to see how it changes things. I assumed these online classes were live during the day? Then why the crowds? Ditching class? <g>

Other folks notice the large number younger memberships at their gyms during the day?

Same here in UK. My university is mostly in person, but the mid day gym crowd is almost as big as before. I am guessing it is growing confidence and lockdown pounds.
But that's the thing... Why so many under 30's at the gym during the day? Prior to the pandemic, my gym between 10:00 and 2:00 was retired, stay at homes, or a short lunch crowd. Now it under 30 all day. I've not been after 5:00 at night.

There are a lot of people out there suffering from pandemic unemployment.

Why don't you just strike up a conversation and ask?
So I chatted with the front desk... They say it's folks taking mostly morning classes for school then gym from noon on. But they didn't know if it was that way pre-pandemic (none of the current staff were there 3 years ago). One of them did tell me they lost a few older memberships when they were told to wear masks after reopening last year.

College guys going the to the gym during the day doesn’t mean they skip class. Most of the times they probably don’t have class on those hours or on a break between two classes so they can spend an hour or two working out

I'm noticing people in their 30s-40s when I go to the gym around midday. Does no one work nowadays?
I'm newly retired (since mid-February) and I thought my gym would be empty in late morning/early afternoon. Wrong!

It seems like many guys in their 20s, 30s and 40s are working from home and can set their own hours.

That's been my feeling. Being new retired (I think...), I too remember the gym as a ghost town of moms and retirees. Even with a college right near by. But now? Post pandemic... A typical Weds around 11am has about 75 people. 75% under 30. Only 2 or 3 of us are over 60. Not complaining though... We have some awesome ladies working out. I don't creep... But I do take note. Having so many younger ones kind of pushes the older ones now. And being over 60..? My range to enjoy is happily wide.
