I get them, and usually have one around once every month or two. Nothing helped, I've tried several different Rx's, and none work for me. Eating cannabis seems to help if I catch it early enough, and regular use of CBD seems to have decreased the regularity. I've only had 2 in the past 6 months.

I've been kinda irritated with some people I know, they claim to have a migraine pretty much every day. When they say it, they sound completely fine. You can't see any discomfort in their face/eyes. It's just a casual "I've got a migraine today, it sucks!" And I can't help but think to myself: migraines don't happen that often. They just don't. When I was diagnosed my doctor told me that even twice a month is frequent for migraines.

I'm pretty damn sure that the people who tell me casually about their ever-so-regular migraines "diagnosed" themselves and they're just having regular old tension headaches. Those suck too, I know... But migraines are fucking debilitating. You can't just function like normal and live your daily life while having one. When I'm having a migraine, I can't move my eyes. The skin surrounding my eyes puffs up and I can barely open them. I vomit uncontrollably. Just opening a curtain makes me feel like I'm dying.

If you're walking around on a sunny day like it's just another day, and you claim to be having a migraine, I might just can you in that shit.

Are you on any kind of preventive medication? Beta Blockers have been known to be able to prevent migraines from happening.

CBD, like I mentioned :)

I mostly just had to vent. I know more than a couple people who claim to have them on an almost daily basis. When I tell them that migraines actually don't happen that frequently (and if they do, you need to see a doctor immediately) they just dismiss me.

It's actually part of my job now to research chronic pain issues. Everything I've read tells me that these people probably aren't having actual migraines.

I do get migraines 1 - 3 days a week. It is debilitating. I can’t work lots, can’t have the lights on, can’t eat due to nausea. It ebbs and flows through the day. I use ice and codeine. Plus topimarate as a preventative. I use special glasses at the office to filter out the lights. I’m triggered by the lighting and by certain smells, by the weather, by red wine, and changes in routine. I’ve seen 13 neurologists, had 3 MRIs, 4 CAT scans, massage therapy, seen naturopath, wholistic healers, had Reiki, acupuncture, acupressure, jaw surgery, etc, etc. Plus every medication available.

I would consider it a success to be down to one or two a month right now. I’m going back to the pain clinic again, getting biofeedback. My work has made tremendous accommodations for me to work from home so when I’m home, I work when I can.

People can get migraines very frequently. I don’t agree they can be walking around them. I sure can’t. I can’t even move my head.

I started having migraines when I was about 5 years old. I went through CAT scans, MRIs, EEGs and about a thousand other tests because the general thinking at the time was children do not get migraines.

And I got them bad. They triggered mild seizures. I wouldn't be able to see anything but that dreaded color aura. I couldn't hear anything but my heartbeat in my ears. Light from any source would cause everything already the suck to be even suckier. They were fucking terrible.

I still get a few a month. Now, the symptoms are not so bad. I get the vice clamp headache, usually on my left side. I am crazy sensitive to light, sound, and temperature. I get hella nauseous. I still get the light show. But I am an adult and know what is happening to me.

I treat my migraines with overall health. I drink heaps of water, I pee Aquafina. I avoid nitrates of any kind. I try to avoid most preservatives. And I am a slave to caffeine consumption. I know the current wisdom is to avoid caffeine. And withdrawal from caffeine will trigger a migraine, thus my slaves like devotion to my french press and iced tea. But to keep at bay and to sooth the savage beast during, nothing but nothing beats the caffeine.

For durig treatment I take ibuprofen, the greatest drug known to mankind. Toss back a few Dr Peppers. Find a nice cold, dark room and sleep. I also have a weighted, pressure headband that works fripping wonders. It's got these lil padded weights you put over the ouchiest spot, tighten the headband and boom *i totally typed boob* almost instant relief. A very nice alternative healing lady introduced me to the practice when I was about 12.

I have a script for painkillers. They do nothing cept make me puke my guts out.

OHOH also... hormone shifts will rev the heck out of migraines. Puberty almost killed me.

Thank you LaFemme. From my readings and what the doctor who diagnosed me said, having them more than a couple times a month is almost unheard-of. Apparently I was incorrect.

I do still strongly feel that the individuals who I'm talking about here are not having frequent migraines. They look/act completely normal. No light diffusing glasses, no nothing. And I live in one of the sunniest states in the country. They eat whatever they want whenever they want... There are just too many things signaling to me that they are thoroughly mistaken as to what kind of headache they are having.

I'm very glad that your job allows you to do what you need to keep the pain as minimal as possible. That kicks ass.

I had them, for a brief, period of time years ago. They were triggered by emotions, of some sort or another.. I was in a toxic relationship, that I was trying to make the best of, for all of the wrong reasons. I would get the headaches, on my way home; and literally just be able to crawl into bed. If I took advil or something, then laid down, closed my eyes; and controlled my breathing it would pass in a half an hour or so.

I do feel, for those people who are affected

( PS: I do give a great foot massage, if all else fails ------- Offer extended to RLG - F- Members only )

I know what you mean. My hormonal migraines were the worst (gone after menopause) and I would have to go to urgent care for a shot. I remember being in a room, projectile vomiting, crawling on the floor in pain, and I vaguely heard the women in the next bed calmly tell the doctor telling the doctor, in complete sentences, that she had a migraine. Omg. If I could speak, I wouldn’t be in the freakin’ hospital puking my guts out begging for morphine! Just amputate my head, do anything -just make it stop!

Now, the pain is different. Just a vise grip on my head until it feels like my eyeballs will pop out. Or an ice pick through the centre of my forehead. Either way, can’t move my head, can’t move my neck. I don’t need a shot anymore. I’ll just get through it at home. The thought of going to the hospital is too much to take. I have to be a 9 before I’d consider it.

I don't "like" the pain you describe here, but had to hit the "like" button because I appreciate your honesty.

Cluster headaches and migraines are not the same thing.

From what I understand, cluster headaches are much worse, and it actually has a high suicide rate for people who suffer from them.

More research needs to be done, but I saw the same information your shared here.

I take magnesium daily. It was something the neurologist put me on to see if it helped. Also a couple of other supplements.

It's so hard to find Anything that can be *remotely* relieving for a migraine.

Nothing actually makes them *go away* if I'm having one. Eating my marijuana can kind of help, and as I mentioned using CBD (vape and tinctures) has significantly decreased the frequency, but I still get them and it's still an absolute nightmare.

Having them weekly? Oh, my goodness you are a strong person..

If I can just close my eyes and breathe. If I can get to sleep. Pass out until it’s over, that’s pretty much the best I can do. The pain clinic taught me breathing techniques and some biofeedback, but I’m going back again for an update.

Living with chronic pain is possible. I just try not to take it out on others. It can turn a person into a bitch, I work hard not to let it do that to me. I have other health issues, too, which complicates things. Just don’t let pain be in charge.

I feel for you folks who suffer Migraine headaches. I'm very fortunate not to have suffered from them. But my Mother did. I remember taking care of her best I could; IF she could speak at all, I'd do whatever she needed. She seemed to suffer them about once a month IIRC. The strange sounds, moans and whimpers were so scary to me. Who was this otherwise strong woman I was trying to help? Wow.

Once she went through menopause, I don't recall her mentioning them again. Of course, by then, I was living on my own. But my younger sister says she has no memories of my Mother having them. But I do, and I know how she suffered.

I had a boss who would get them several times a month. It got where many of us on staff would recognize the early signs; her eyes took on a very specific "look". That's when we knew to get her to take her prescription meds, get her on the couch, close the blinds, and clear her calendar. Many times I drove her home when she was unable to. She also seemed to improve once she went through menopause.

I had another co-worker who also suffered. I can remember driving her home as well a few times. She always had a barf bag in her purse, just in case. She needed it often.

Are migraines more prevalent in women? I ask because I don't recall any man I've known to suffer from Migraines.

I would not wish Migraines on anyone having seen first hand the intense, debilitating suffering. Migraines are no joke!
