I was in the USMC. I'm not sure what you're asking. In boot camp and in the fleet, yes, the sleeping quarters were close, and yes, there were common shower areas. But if you are asking did any of us have gay sex with 45 or so spectators, well, no. The squadbays and shower areas were not really the best place to be having sex of any kind.
Although occasionally (rare occasion), if you were awake in the middle of the night, you did hear someone stroke one off.

In the Army IN Iraq the sleeping quarters were small barely enough room for one but two per room. The toilets and showers were in another building about 25 or 30 yards away. Showers were divided but some had curtains and some didn't. I didn't care if I used a shower with a curtain or not but typically I used one with curtains to leave a gap so people could see in it. Now pranks are a normal thing in the military especially at war. So many times men would take your stuff and put it on your bunk for you including your towel.
