And here's an interesting observation: My spell checker just underlined "misandry" but not "misogyny". That says so much about our culture, sadly.

What? That misandry is a dubious term which men use at any opportunity to try to divert attention away from misogyny and drag public discussion on to the topic of men and their woes?

No, that Misogyny is used commonly enough that Spelcheck recognizes and lists it, while Misandry is rarely used and foreign to it. Spelcheck's vocabulary is limited.

Precisely. And it suggests to me that misandry as a word and concept is far less discussed than misogyny, perhaps because it's far less common than misogyny in our culture.

Ask yourself this, if Misandry exists in the way Misogyny does, and indeed if it has any socio-cultural effect on you which would you rather be forced to live with?

Misogyny is all pervasive and has influenced almost every modern culture, women deal with misogyny on a minute by minute basis in the way it has shaped and formed the way they live. Do you think Misandry has had a similar effect on the lives of most men?

That's exactly my point, hilaire. I'm not sure how you're missing it since I explicitly said it in the post you just quoted and since the post before that was about how I think workplace sexism against women is detrimental to our society.

Let me spell it out for you: I think misandry is coming up on spell checker because the word isn't used very often because misandry is a far less common thing than misogyny in our society.

I expect either an apology or another asinine post where you clearly don't get that I'M ON YOUR FUCKING SIDE.

PS: See signature.

What so you call the fairly regular occurrence of a thread claiming that women with more than X number of partners are irredeemable sluts and that a man should never get into a relationship with them.? What do you call the posts where male members tell the women they have no right to be here because it is a cock site?

Sheer, blatant, puerile ASSHATTERY. Bet you dollars against donuts too that if half of the folk that post in that vein of thought would not sound like that IF they go and fix their heads and find their heart - because they would be IMMEASURABLY more successful with their partners IRL.

Venting is for sealed containers of volatile materials and nuclear reactors. :D

(still reading through this explosive thread)

You will oft be very surprised just how much control partners will have in a well adjusted and *loving* relationship. The basic, broad strokes:

If you're by yourself, you're masturbating. ;>

Hmmm, maybe not you. Don't lump me in your group.

Women are not masters of their own sexuality. Luka, you're really being naive here.

Your not on my fucking side, as you put it, if that's how you react when I found your post to be equivocal and vague, you seemed to be bringing the topic of misandry up and I thougt it might be useful to discuss with you if it exists or if it does how it effects people. Besides, an apology for what? Did I call your posts asinine? Or adopt an unpleasantly impatient manner towards you? Oh and while we're at it, what side?

Perhaps the word that everyone is looking for is:

Misanthropy?

Didn't trigger my spell checker on my main machine. :D But I do - without looking it up - believe that it is merely the distrust/dislike of ALL fellow humans. Regardless of sex, color, creed, etc.

Well I admit readily to having been a sociable and gregarious misanthrope all my life. It's a conflict.

Nothing wrong with that. :D I am of the same mindset to a degree - mostly because of my shy temperament - I live vicariously through myself online however. :biggrin1:

Mi-so-hony is unchallenged virtually everywhere on the internets.

Take Yahoo! Answers, one of the most policed places on the web. Check out what they're leaving to pass:

I would like to make a woman my slave......?

I would like to make a woman my slave. I have chains in the kitchen and a large deep pit in my basement to keep her in while she sleeps, but how do i keep her from screaming or running away when i transfer her from the kitchen to the pit? should i bind her feet and put a ball gag in her mouth?

...
You could try chloroform.

...
Why would you need all those fancy things when you can just knock her unconscious and then drag her down there. but remember to dress her in sexy slave clothes while she is down.

Sources: personal experience

...

Thousands of similar dialogues and questions...

Why do women have smaller brains than men? - Yahoo! Answers

Why is it "wrong" to hit women? - Yahoo! Answers

The problem is that most of these sites are moderated by men, who happen to have bigger brains then women, and, consequently, know what's acceptable and what's not. :biggrin1:

I have observed low intellect males being dismissive of females who don't respond to them. That is unacceptable but these guys are an embarrassment too in all other areas of life. However, I have to say some of the most savage remarks I have seen in chat are from women (American princesses usually) towards men of any description. There isn't a sexual division in good manners. gender has nothing to do with it.

And manners aren't necessarily anything to do with misogyny. After all a person may be perfectly courteous to someone while still despising them. It's even possible to express misogyny in terms which seem perfectly innocuous.

I feel the same way, Hilaire. I've noticed that most guys on this site are well aware of how to treat a female because they might get banned if they don't behave themselves. But the hatred is just below the surface and comes out in strange ways. I've always found it an amazing dichotomy that guys can lust after women so intensely but in the same moment can hate us so much too. It must be terribly confusing to desire someone so badly and to despise them so much.

Thanks for creating this thread. It's been one of the best I've ever read.
