I rarely get misogynistic sounding things in my inbox. Strangely with the recent photos i've put on my page they have brought out a more sophisticated bunch of comments than i have had in the past.

I think we get a younger crowd on lpsg in the summer time when classes let out. The places has seasons of personalities, good and bad. Posting styles, thread creations, photo commentary, political topics that change with time and morph into other things over time.

I have seen misogynistic postings, but by far is not the majority or most guys on here. I see much more of it on other websites i go to. It seems to be cool to be on an extreme way of thinking on those sites but i see a much better behavior around here from all.

I think that there are far more intelligent men on here, gay and straight than otherwise. If you see how many posts per day are created by men and how many of them sound misogynistic, there are very very few.

But then again, misogyny means someting different to all of us here.

Misogyny is rife because we live in a patriarchal society. This site has really opened my eyes to how much women are hated.

Try challenging a mans right to pornography. You'll hear the words: "ugly", "fat", "cunt", "slut", with a side of threatening to rape.

That's definitely a good thing. I think it's possible you could be right, it's also possible that MR is right. As a guy I can only be aware of misogyny a certain amount of the time (no matter how vigilant I may be) so my own take on how prevalent it is on LPSG is probably skewed by not really being at the pointy end of it, so to speak :wink:

Hilaire, I do think there's some misogyny here but also just as much homophobia because there are so many gay and bi men on this site. This is very interesting to me. At the same time I know that some men have been very hurt by women in relationships so it comes out negatively here. Maybe this is an old school theory but I do believe that when straight men are hurt emotionally, they have a very hard time dealing with that feeling. It's like their whole being fights to get rid of it. I guess it's about feeling weak or impotent or vulnerable. That emotion almost must be turned into anger and hate to be dealt with. In addition when they become vulnerable emotionally to a woman, and then they get rejected, it almost seems as if they'll die. So while I'm not excusing the misogyny here, I do have a better understanding of how males deal with pain and suffering. I don't think they should be hating on the women here. I would hope that they could find some care and compassion for their hurt with other people here. Just my desire to understand guys...because I do love them! :smile:

i don't think it's futile to set minimum standards and stick to them...there are racist and homophobic people here, who know better to spout their poison because they'll get banned.
