Good question Lee.

I think it does get a bad press. First because of the old religious thing that this was the only acceptable position (WTF) and secondly, from my perspective, I find it a bit restrictive with regard to movement. I prefer the legs over the shoulder style as others have mentioned, but that is a bit selfish on my part because I have been told on several occasions that partners love the full penetration and then a circular or non thrusting movement which gives a lot of clitoral stimulation.

I'll just do as I am told.

I think that part of it is in the name itself. I mean, if you could do something named cowgirl, reverse cowgirl or doggie, who would pick something named missionary?

Also, I think that in this day of prevalent porn, missionary does not look as good on film as the others.

Having said all this, my SO and I enjoy missionary the most and do it almost exclusively.

I think most porn today is very different from the golden era of porn. The positions and scenes today would simply not have done in that era. Missionary and the intimacy allowed in that position are an anathema today.
