Please keep in mind that "moderator" and "mediator" do not refer to the same function.
WOW! Glad someone pointed this out. I really like Bronx's posts about her role as the moderator of her church. Therre is a difference between a President or Chairperson and a Moderator. In genral, a modreator has less power.
Having said that, moderators on a board like this obviously function different than moderators in a live "real time" meeting.
I have tried to not be a different person as a moderator than I was as a member.
It was mentioned about the Jacinto thread. Yes, I also brought what Double MeatWhopper has to say about that situation. to the board. I did not print everything he said. There were a few statements that I deleted that I thought were inflamatory to some of the members. The reason I did that was that I felt you the members should know what he had to say about it. Not to agree with it. I did not think I had a right to deny those who wanted to read his statement on it from getting to read it. And after everyone had a chance to read and comment, I closed the thread. I didn't know a way to just send it to the persons who wanted to read it. And if 'Jacinto/DoubleMeatWhopper" asked to come back as a member today, I would tell him no. He is banned from this site. If I had it to do over again, I think I would do the same thing except leave out my comments on it.
I do try to do my job and also be a member. Just remember we are volunteers selected by the owner of this site and serve at his pleasure. At anytime, Rob+_E could decide that one or all of us were relieved of our duties. This is a privately owned site. Rob_E is the owner. If this were a building and Rob really wanted to paint it shit brown, there really isn't much any of us could do or say about it. We could complain and tell why that is a horrible color. I doubt that would change the color of the paint as it it being applied to the walls of the "building."
