Yes and I rung up my dermatologist and she saw me quick smart esp. given my history.

:frown1: I literally cannot find a Doctor who wasn't entombed in their own home by snow yesterday, we had a very heavy fall last night, and the way it works here is that you have to get a referral from your primary doctor to see a specialist like a dermatologist. I've even tried calling a couple of private dermatology clinics which claim not to require referral, but they either don't do this kind of procedure because they specialise in cosmetic issues like acne or they just seem kinda dodgy and cowboy.

I'm probably going to have to wait a little longer before I can get my suspicious mole seen to. :frown1:

my mother had a few what seemed at the time to be strangel shaped freckles, since she was freckledy it went ignored a long time. She's dead, any questions?

Then the scary 1 that sat just above her lip began bleeding at times, still it went unchecked. She's dead, any questions?

She asked a friend what they thought, then realized the church yard sale was nearing and she was in charge of the sandwiches, it'd wait. She's dead, any questions?

Finally it was looked at and they dug it out, it had deeply attached, there was a frightful scar left and it seemed it was all better. They had even checked the other things which we'd assumed were freckles, they were melanomas as well, they were easier removed. Well she's dead, any questions?

At the end it turned out that irritating lip melanoma was much more deadly than was imagined.

Don't fart around with this, drag yourself to a hospital if need be. If it was a heart attack, if it was signs of a stroke, hacking up blood, severe stomach pain, a head injury and that kind of thing you'd find a way to get the medical attentiion, this really isn't any different. A surface appearance may be a warning that there's a deeper rooting with that mole, why take chances?

Well to be fair I'm not really farting around, I'm just being thwarted by the limitations of the healthcare system here. But I take your point, and I'm not treating this litely.

I'll phone the hospital now and see if they have any advice.

I'm sorry about your Mum Hoss.

As long as you're doing your level best to take care of it, that's what's most important. Let us know what happens.

So I finally found a doctor to check my mole out. She said she thinks the itching is more than likely due to an tiny area of eczema type skin irritation which to the naked eye was what looked like a change in the skin colour around the mole. She's given me hydracortizone cream, but to be sure she's made an appointment for me to have to mole removed and biopsied anyway, just to be on the safe side.

She said that I'd done the right thing coming to see her because the mole had definitely met the normal criteria for concern, at least to the layman's eyes; it is the "ugly duckling" mole i.e. the one that's different to all the rest, it has changed appearance, it does itch, I do have displastic moles elsewhere on my body which is thought to predispose one to melanoma.... but that despite all this it's probably nothing to worry about.

She was extremely reassuring, and I'll definitely be sleeping better now. I just have to wait till February now to have it removed.

Well, I now have a large excavation on the bottom of my right ass cheek and I am thankful the two plastic surgeons who went digging this morning have no qualms about dispensing large quantities of seriously addictive pain medication.

"But doctor, I LIKE the medication."

I feel a bit like Diane Schurr (blind jazz pianist/singer) who says she can't play unless her tits are centered on either side of middle C. Typing sideways is a new circus trick that will take some time to master. It'll be three days before the pathologist calls and gives my surgeons a thumbs up or thumbs down. Did I mention the pain medication is sublime?

So, it looks as though I'll be spending far too much time lurking on LPSG and other sites because I certainly can't concentrate well enough to read! Sorry about that. LOL!

I was wondering if anyone has ever had to have a mole/nevus removed because of suspected melanoma?

I got the mole gene, so I have a bunch on my body.

I've also moved around a bunch over the last few years, had a new doctor in each place I've lived, and the last three have all found a mole they were worried about and biopsied.

All three of the doctors have been concerned when they've found those moles. One of them was sure the one she noticed was malignant.

All three moles? Benign.

I don't recall how they were removed, except for the latest doctor who just numbed up that area of my chest and cut the damn thing out to biopsy it!!

It's good to get that stuff checked out. But ... as I understand it ... what the docs do is first rule out cancer, not assume the worst. Everyone's got different skin and different genes.
