Completely semi-agree. Monstercocktube doesn't work half the time, anyway. Don't really care how many vids a day they change it to. YouPorn is definitely crap. Xtube, although it hast glitches, is still completely free. I'll take glitchy and free any day. LPSG is definitely more limited. Need a gold membership to view pics/vids, can't upload vids larger than 15Mb (xtube is 50) and you have to deal with various jackasses and there jackass posts. And don't get me started on the fakes. It's not bad but not the last place I plan on posting at.

this is Patrick, i'm running Monstercocktube.com - I heard that a lot of people on MCT are from this site, so I checked it out today and found a couple of threads about MCT. I'm going to introduce myself in a separate post later.

About the viewing limit. Yes, that is new and starts today. You might have realized that MCT was really crappy the last couple of weeks. my webhost promised me a new server but they are in the middle of moving their entire server farm to Minnesota. And they had some major power issues there so that they had to put this off for over six weeks.
And here is why I had to do the limit: I started MCT for pure fun, i wanted to build a site where people can dump all the small clips that are scattered around harddrives and cds.. didn't expect much response but within a couple of weeks there were thousands of members registered. the software for MCT is not exactly bug free and not optimized for lots of users. so the site became slower and slower...you probably saw that. About two months ago my webhost came to me and "needed to talk" - about the bandwidth i was using. Streaming video online is really expensive. i learned that when he presented me a 4-figure bandwidth bill!! He said we can work this out and i don't have to pay right now. So I had no other choice, either shut it down and sell my car to settle the bill or try asking for member support.
My webhost helped me out and gave me a second server and helped me optimizing the database. so you should see that MCT is running smooth again.
But the good news is, everybody who uploads some good videos gets to watch unlimited videos. I think this is a fair deal.
Please write me how you feel about this? Maybe you have some suggestions on how i can make MCT a place worth going to!
I'm not an Xtube with a big server farm and cheap wholesale bandwidth prices. i'm a student doing this for fun.

Good on ya for fixing the situation...however most people aren't gonna like the limit. Mainly because that stops them from being the video whording mooches that they are. As you probably already know, most of your members have zero films uploaded, but are the first to complain when you start requiring active participation.

This is how the world is and you have to just do what you have to do.

Ps, I'm cancelling my membership because I have no movies to post and I hate limitations. LOL!!!

yeah, I got something to say. It's nice that you don't have to see that same intro page explaining the slow conditions, which in my opinion was a big understatement. I very often just gave up. The site isn't firefox friendly at all. Most of the vids posted are short clips that are adverts for other webpages and now your expected to pay a fee to view these advertisement. And as of yesterday surfing the site wasn't a bit more charming then in the past. I got the limit notice the first time I entered the site this afternoon. I think I'll just remove the webpage from my favorites. Thanks patrick for all the interesting clips I got to see when monstercocktube was worth the headache.

I appreciate your posting an explanation for the sudden membership fee, but I'm more than a little skeptical. A charge of $19.95 a month from your admitted "thousands of members registered" smells like more than just "a student doing this for fun."

That is an astronomical amount of money for user generated content, particularly on a website that has such an unreliable history. And especially since 50% or more of the content is of low quality and can be found elsewhere.

You could have asked for donations of whatever a member could afford. You could have given some warning that you were going to have to charge a fee if voluntary financial support was not forthcoming. And you certainly could have imposed a reasonable fee - say $9.95 a month - that a lot more members would likely have paid.

I enjoyed the site. But what you did, and the way you did it, really stinks. So I'm outta there.

thanks for your input. I gave it this some heavy thought and lowered the contribution to $9.95
Donations don't work for two reasons: a) people don't donate - as sad as it sounds but a friend of mine had a community site and he had to shut it down because hardly anybody donates. People just don't get involved a lot. Most people just come and expect everything to be free and work perfectly.. Hardly anybody thinks about how much time, effort and money it costs to run a website. b) the only way for me to accept donations is through paypal - and they don't allow porn :-(

I really want this to be a community site for big dick enthusiats like me - and all about video and pictures. So everybody who shares videos gets to watch unlimited videos. This is fair and simple. But a lot of people just come to watch and don't contribute anything. And I have to pay for the bandwidth bills. I didn't realize it was going to be this much. I can also shut down the website, then everybody is happy (or not?)

thing with the bandwidth is, and i did some research on that the last few weeks when monstercocktube was all stuck and i didn't know what to do...
many webhosts promise unmetered traffic. BUT, they reserve the right (and that is in the fine print) to cancel hosting accounts at will if "necessary"... so they put up an offer that sounds irresitable and 99% of the people won't ever use much bandwitdth...and that 1% just gets kicked out once they actually consume traffic. webhosts have to buy the bandwidth from the phone carriers and that just does not come for free. Maybe I'm wrong? but that's what i've read on several boards... and I don't want to wake up one morning finding an email that my hosting account has been suspended and I need to move again.
