MY "equality" is not a vision of preferential treatment for minorities, I have not now or at any time in the past suggested such a thing. I don't disagree with what you said, but clarifiying some points. but I will quote you, "for the slow ones in the room"..... The "white supremacist that are ruling" that Jana is referring to are just a portion of the white population. Whites are also the majority in the Democratic Party as well. It is just that in the Democratic Party more are truly welcomed who want free rights for everyone. But this doesn't mean the Democratic Party is more democratic than the Repulican Party.
"For the slow ones in the room" the small group that controls the Repulican Party are using issues that can get them votes. The latest group they have sought out are the religious right or the fundie Christians. Not all Christians, just the ones on the right and some of them aren't practiicng Christians at all.
There is no way that the ones controling the Republican Party can win an election without getting some small special interests groups to help them. Hense, Bush has to have these certain "major issues" for vote getting purposes. Bush has been quite effective at getting his 'votes' together. But do not think for a moment that these special interest groups are the real power of the Republican Party. Below are the groups that Bush has gotten together that have power only on those issues that are of interest to them.
(1) It includes super patriots that will always support a president during war time. So we have a war that will continue until the super patriots figure Bush out on this one. And they will. Some already have. This is a major reason of the war that is overlooked. To get the super partriot vote out and voting Republican.
(2) Bush's little group also includes that religious right I was mentioning. These people are so hung up in their far right beliefs on abortion, creationism and antigay beliefs. This group gives Christinaity a black eye. When it is all said and done about half or more of Christians do not agree with the fundie Christians at all.
(3) Bush also has the support of non Christians who are very much opposed to abortion, creationsim and gay rights.
It is very tricky keeping these three groups in Bush's corner and at the same time keeping control of the Repbulican Party in the hands of a small group of mainly white people who have controlled the money in this country from the begining. A few new people have joined the group over time.
If Bush does not appoint the persion the religious right wants for Supreme Court, he could lose support quickly. The federal mariage amendment requires a 2/3 majority of the Congress. There isn't a a snow balls chance in hell for that to pass. Bush knows that. So he can pontificate on TV as many hours as he wants about it knowing that is is wasted breath.
A treatise here to show that the real power in the Republican Party belongs to a small group of people. This small group isn't for white control. They don't "outsiders" of any color into their small group.
People like me who are very educated in the liberal arts, and are teachers and don't have huge salaries are not really welcomed into the Republican Party. True I am descended from the British Isles. I am white. But don't think for moment that Bush gives a rat's ass about me or other middle class and poor whites and what happens to us.
It is all about Bush and his friends and those in power to gain even more power.
