Not a surprise at all but finally the country is accepting what was clear when at his presidential announcement speech on June 16, 2015 when he lied and said of Mexico "They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists."

(CNN)A Quinnipiac University poll out this week shows that a majority (51%) of voters believe that President Donald Trump is a racist. Forty-five percent say that he is not.

To opponents of the President, this poll may not be surprising. But think about it for a second. This isn't just the normal opposition you'd expect to a president. This is a majority of voters saying their president is a racist.

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The idea of a race war has long animated white supremacists, who seem to think such a conflict would result in a white victory, whatever that would mean.

Dylann Roof — the white man-boy who murdered nine black worshipers during Bible study at Mother Emanuel AME Church here four summers ago — entertained such an idea and told his roommate that he wanted to start a race war. Roof, of course, failed in his mission. Instead of a war, he sparked a massive, community-wide and statewide demonstration of love, charity and forgiveness, as well as a deepened commitment to racial reconciliation. Blacks and whites hugged, joined hands and, soon after the shooting, marched by the thousands over the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge in solidarity.

If there ever was to be a “race war” in America, it would have to wait for President Trump — rhetorically speaking.

==

..the president’s racism has been present since the good ol’ days when he tagged along with his father, real estate developer Fred Trump, to check on his apartment buildings in Queens, where the policy was basically No blacks allowed . Of course, people can evolve and change, but apparently, the president’s moral development seems to have arrested somewhere around the middle of last century.

So, yes, Trump has essentially declared a “race war,” for lack of a better term, on minority leaders and their constituents. His defenders can argue that there were other reasons for his attacks on people who just happen to be minorities.

Trump has essentially declared a ‘race war’
Truth be told Fox News has also declared war on minorities in the US. They as much as the president knows their base and what they want to see.

But how many voters are also racists, or don't care that he is a racist.

Or like him because he is. His bashing of Mexicans in June 2015 is what vaulted him to the top of the ticket in July 2015. His racism and bigotry is what they admire in him. Period.

More people think more people are "a racist" than they did in 1968. People were often willing to give the benefit of the doubt unless someone expressed really overt prejudice. Nowadays we label people "a racist" on the basis of "microaggressions".

And that has led to a diminishing of the word’s impact.

It's just possible we have a better understanding of racism, and how pervasive it is, than they did in 1968. Maybe too many got the benefit of the doubt back then.

Perhaps. Anyway, my point is that this is really the main thing behind the difference referred to in the OP. Remember when people were accusing Bernie Sanders of being a racist?

Donald Trump's racism is a reflection of a certain part of the population that is in fact and deed racist.

If Predator Trump thought he could gain reelection by being what some call a "snowflake" then he'd be a snowflake! Even so in his dark and empty heart he'd still be a racist...
