The flip side of this discussion-

lets talk about movies where the 'sequel' was BETTER than the source material

2 come to mind

Alien and Aliens

Alien was a great spooky as hell movie
Aliens flipped the concept and made a great movie, possibly better than the first
----------------------------------
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the movie)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer the TV show...who would have thought?

You know I said in the other thread I can't really think of a sequel that really worked. I really don't count something that was intended as having a part 2 or a trilogy as being a sequel. I'll give it some thought.

Not too many that i would say are better than the first, most sequals i love are equally as good usually but these stand out for me:-

28 Weeks Later

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Final Destination 2

Agree with Buffy!

Also (although not quite on topic) Dexter. I've just finished reading the book and it was crap! Who'd have thought anyone could make a good TV show out of that?

Predator 2
Aliens (obviously)
2010 (note, I'm not saying it is better than 2001: A Space Odyssey, but it is certainly worth watching)
Nanny McPhee Returns (aka Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang)

Like HG in the other thread I don't count the later releases of the LotR or Matrices  films, or any other series of films where the whole story was envisioned before the first movie was made (e.g. Star Wars, Harry Potter, etc.), as sequels.

Likewise For a Few Dollars More and the Good, the Bad and the Ugly are not really really sequels to A Fistful of Dollars - but all three should be watched anyway - they're blinding.
