I'll never forget the few months of my internship at the White House. The new President was recently elected and he is very left wing. There was going to be a big shake up in all areas of his administration from the previous Republican one.
I had been top of my class at college. Born in a working class family, I am half Indonesian and half Dutch who grew up in Jakarta and won a full scholarship to study in one of the top three universities in D. C. and Virginia area.
It just happened one semester, I was called by the Dean who explained that I have been offered a paid internship for the summer break and if I was interested. I was also told that I was one of two that had been shorlisted at the Uni but was selected for my ethnic diversity.
I couldn't pass the chance of a lifetime. First of all, I was a foreign student and in my mind thought that it would be a life enriching experience that I could brag about in my adult years, and hell yeah, wouldn't it look good on my resumé?
Mom and Dad were so excited when they had heard the news and Dad reminded me to read up as much as I can about the President and the House. So I would be knowledgable and represent my country well and honor my role.
