I mean the Messenger/Live Messenger.

I just checked and MSN hotmail online works for me, just not the program. So my password is [probably] safe.

My monitor doesn't turn on when I restart. I have to leave it unplugged for a few minutes then turn it back on.

There are no POST errors but the monitor doesn't come on after I turn the PC off. Is it a virus or something? I've done scans and apparently everything's okay but I wonder...

Anyway I've copied my files to the USB drive and gonna format :(

Thanks Onan.

I don't know of any viruses that prevent your monitor from turning on, but you never know.

My guess is that you have two unrelated problems: a failing monitor and a problem with Live Messenger. Do a complete virus scan and also check your system drive (probably C) for errors. If you get an error with Live, google the error. Try reinstalling Live if you can't get it to work. Try another monitor if you can. That's my $.02.

I did try another monitor, that I knew was working. That didn't turn on either. Could it be a bad power supply? My cousin's PC had shitloads of viruses on it and I THINK they were causing his PC to restart every five or ten minutes. The irony is, I formatted his PC yesterday and its all working great now. Then I got home and had to format mine

Another thing is, I restarted and the PC didn't shut down. So I shut it down myself by keeping the button pressed in. Then the problems started. Could it be because of that?

Anyway I've formatted it now and think its working. I only formatted it last night, still have to install XP

Why is there a shitload of viruses? I'm running 3 virus programs at all times, this computer doesn't even know what a virus is. I can't see how people don't protect their stuff.

Yes good point. They should scan more. Keep the program running while online. Get a good program like Spybot and set it to protect your browser.

I have AVG. I also tried reinstalling MSN, that didn't fix it. So I just formatted it.

FYI my cousin is only young and uses Limewire etc etc so the computer was infested. AVG and other programs can only do so much and can't do much when the computer is riddled.

I know my PC wasn't riddled and I've had a similar problem to it where the computer wouldn't boot and I'd get a corrupt /system hive error. This is what I get for buying from PC World :p

I've been using Limewire for 5+ years never gotten anything from it that I didn't know I was getting. AVG clearly warns you before the download is done that there is a virus and it deletes it for you...

And I'm an avid down loader, porn, pictures, programs, tv shows, music, music videos.

Try Avast.

Do you have Ad-Aware? I swear by that program. (I use the free version.)

Scan everyday and defragment your hard drive. Check the security settings on your browser. Set them medium to high. Make a list of trusted sites. Do not allow remote settings. Check see if they are allowed. If they are disable them. Make everything password protected.. The programs i and others mention work. You have use them and keep them updated.
