2 things.

1. I didn't realize The Real World was still on.

2. It gets really fucking old, clicking on a thread that has the word NAKED in the title and none of the pictures are of anyone naked. A fuzzy still photo of a b-list celebrity flashing his ass does not constitute a "naked" picture. Naked is no clothes, everything visible from toes to forhead, not the top of a supposedly famous person's ass crack.

I didn't realize The Real World was still on...

Unbelievable, isn't it? They are currently airing the 24th season, and I believe seasons 25 & 26 are in the works.

I loved the original season because I was 21 at the time and living with 6 housemates. I found the show to be a pretty realistic depiction of what it's like for 7 people to live together: the friendships, the conflicts, the bonds, the falling outs, the politics, the serious issues, the occasional drama, the negotiations and resolutions, and so on.

In fact, I'd say that overall the first 7 seasons or so were pretty decent. At some point after that, the show changed for me (although the changes were underway even before that). I agree with Benjamin Wallace-Wells, who is quoted on wikipedia as saying:
No longer an outlet for twentysomethings to brood about their future careers, the show has become a cyclic three-month on-air party for young adults to mingle in hot tubs and obsess about the present. The locales have changed from creative meccas like New York and London to vacation spots like Las Vegas and Hawaii. MTV has rejiggered the show to require characters to engage in artificial, season-long contests or projects -- like putting together a fashion show -- which the characters embrace in the way most American teenagers experience spring break: as a big party.

Exactly. Dang. I remember watching the Miami season and the Boston season because they were confronting some serious issues -- the first New Orleans a bit too. The last season I saw on the regular was the 10th one, Back to New York, and the hyped-up personalities jumped the shark. ESPECIALLY since these damn fools would come right back on MTV two years, five years, ten years, twenty years -- hellloooooo, Mark from Road Rules! Beth from the first Real World! -- and "entertain" us.

Seriously? Tired ass show on an incredibly tired ass network. MTV was the first thing I bid sayonara when I canceled cable TV a couple years ago.
