2nd year in college . . . it happens. I wouldn't call it something that everybody has experienced or can identify with.
The upside is that you do this behavior with a close commited friend, not a stranger . . . which I think is way healthier.
However, you will eventually have to find some peace and acceptance with how close you have gotten and how your relationship is defined. You may come to this either by a spoke or unspoke agreement . . . but the important part is that you don't worry yourself too much about it because it is not unhealthy in a clinical sense so long as you are both on equal terms in the relationship.

If you are really concerned about the "Am I str8 or gay" question, then think about whether you would want to have longer term intimate relationships with men beyond your best friend. If your only interest is in developing new intimate relationships with women, then let that be your guide.
I can't speak from personal experience, but I can see how intimacy can develop with a best friend because of the comfort that develops between two people with so many shared experiences . . . especially if you were a support system for each other in a time of rapid chaotic change, like puberty/adolescence.
