My circumcision journey

I don't know why you wern't given anti swelling meds pre-op. When I was given meds day before the surgery, I was curious to know what the meds were for. The nurse said they were for post-op swelling.

hmmmmm.... i don't recall those being available to me. Wish I had known, but then again, I was done back in 1974 ; perhaps not as readily available

Day 7, All the shaft bruising has gone, and pretty much no lower shaft swelling, however near the cut site, one side still quite swollen, plus at least two of the stiches have certainly failed (CI018), however the cut area is not gaping open etc, and as I have noticed in my boxers, think this is where the Lymphatic fluid from the main swelling, is draining via this, but will have to keep a close watch on this.

Did your doctor schedule a check up after your surgery?

That is looking okay in comparison to what I went through ........ and I had a stitch failure.

Keep us posted - thanks

Day 10, pretty much all the stitches have gone, and the cut area swelling has dropped quite a bit.

Problem today for me, was I was at a Union conference in Leicester, and it was itching like hell.

Yup - itching was the worst I experienced! Could be a bit awkward at times ...

Day 14.... A lot of the swelling has now gone along with stiches..... top-side has come together very well, however the underside, because the stitching failed early, is of slight concern, however the edges seam to be drawing together on their own well, and with support with Steristrips (I recommend everyone to get some of these in just in case who's having a Circ), one advantage, is allowing easy passage of Lymphatic fluid, which is mostly the result of swelling.

Huston, we have a problem!

As advised by my friend who's gone through the exact same thing (From Mansfield, Nottingham), his got infected, and was a bit of a job to put right.

I'm now in the same boat as he was.

As the stitching had failed earlier as was expected, top part has worked perfectly, but the underside either side of where the Frenulum was, has not faired well.

There is a fair bit of swelling, discoloured discharge (Pink, which was what got me to go get checked out), and lack of heeling.

Went to Derby's UTC (Urgent Care Centre) yesterday afternoon, after a call to NHS111 (Complete waste of time), to then calling my GP (Calls kept getting dropped), and finally ending up at UTC (Whom was fantastic, 2 hrs wait, but honestly thought it would be longer).

Chap at the UTC also happened to know the chap who did the circ on me, did the exam, given some anti-bio's, however asked me to hold off till I visited one of the areas A&E's (Emergency Rooms), as it's likely some sort of wound closure maybe required, and they may have a better solution for me.

Went to Queens Medical Centre (QMC) A&E, Nottingham (For you brits, yes it's the very same place that has just been on Channel 4's "24 HRS in A&E"), got checked out.

Because of the swelling and infection, it was not currently advisable to manually close the wound, as it needs to drain first, so treat same as a piercing, salt water bath morning and night, and to take the anti-bio's Derby UTC issued, then after a week if it's not started to close by itself, to look at doing that then.

A&E consulted with their neighbours at Nottingham Urology at the City campus during this.... however these arseholes at City, are somewhat responsible for the situation I'm in now, after a botched Frenuloplasty some 10+ years back, so as you can imagine, I was not happy to hear them involved with me again..... however I need help here, so will begrudgingly take it.

Going to be a case of wait and see for the next 7 days, with support from Nottingham City Urology, however if the cleaning, anti-bio's work and the wound starts to close by itself, I should be fine.

Just to note, any procedure like this, can carry risk, and one of the most common, is stiches failing earlier than expected (You can get the same issues with the glue method too), however being on the ball and on top of things, the risk is minimal.

In hindsight, I should have got this checked out the moment the stiches started to fail as early as they did, so was a mistake I made.

I'm sure things will work out in the end.

This is why I'm posting about my experiences, so everyone can learn from my experiences and mistakes..... It may not happen to you, but least you can all learn from what I have gone through, and know what to look out for.

21 days / week 3.

Following up from my post Friday and some good news (Image 029)..... A lot of the signs of the infection and swelling have calmed down a lot, which is a relief.... the antibiotics are deffo working, as I no longer have the burning sensation like someone had tipped a truck battery over my crotch, and I'm able to use a larger PA ring than at the start of the issues, though swelling has not calmed down enough yet to use my big Horseshoe ring yet.

Also the area where the stiches failed early, the two cut lines are starting to meet up on their own, so I think now at worst, I may need a bit of glue to keep the edges together long enough, so proper heeling takes place

One again, I'd like to state any procedure like this, can carry risk, and one of the most common, is stiches failing earlier than expected (You can get the same issues with the glue method too), however being on the ball and on top of things, the risk is minimal.

I think the doctor should have scheduled a post op examination to see that there were no problems.
