Nothing. Is just a convention, but very widespread.

"Artistic" male nude are in B&W. As in Bruce Weber, (For His Eyes Only: Bruce Weber Photography - Bear Pond),
Greg Gorman (Art Gallery: Greg Gorman), etc.

A simetric convention is "flaccid is art, hard is porn".

My point is to associate the "artistic" treatment with the "porn" shapes, to show the inconsistence of this belief.
