80% of all marriages in world history have been between cousins! Think about it -- it was only the last couple hundred years that people have been able to leave their village. Prior to that families often lived in the same village for generations. Eventually you are related to everyone else in that village -- they are all your cousins.http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~bbunce77/AllCuzzins.html
yeah cause we'd all love to go back and live during that time, the black plague, slavery, the mass extermination of native peoples, the spanish inquisition. sign me up!
i do believe there are still some cultures who frequently practice inbreeding yep according wikipedia "marriages between first and second cousins nevertheless account for over 10% of marriages worldwide.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cousin_marriage#cite_note-kershaw-1 They are particularly common in the Middle East, where in some nations they account for over half of all marriages." Let's see the same places were women have very little if any rights at all and are sold, bartered and traded by men. Who wants to go live that lifestyle?
Not me!!! Maybe they wouldn't marry their cousins if they actually had a say in their lives.
