I don't know about visible in public but I used to work with a bunch of racists and their comments were like
In the case of a white man and black woman (said black woman worked there but on a different shift): "I can't believe she married a white man!" (implied: "How DARE she!") and "I like him ok, but I can't stand HER!"
And in the case of a black man and white woman: "She makes all white women look bad" Notice the sexism along with the racism there (and the people saying these things were women, too!) They didn't like me too well over there at work, partly because they hated anyone who was not racist, and partly because they hated anyone who was going to or had gone to college. Sad...
I was friends with a white man/black woman couple in the city I used to live. They were competitive race walkers at the time I was doing that. The man was really good - he almost always won his age group and sometimes won overall awards. The woman occasionally won age group awards and was faster than I was. I even won age group awards a few times, when there weren't many people in my age group competing! :biggrin1: I never did hear anyone make any racist comments about them, though. I think things may be better in the cities than they are in smaller towns with regards to that, although I suppose the region you live in makes a difference too. I recently moved from the Midwest to the Southwest. I don't know that there is a lot of difference in attitudes between the city I used to live in and the city I live in now, as far as that goes. I have picked up on some differences between the two cities with regard to other things though.
