so, she was released on monday, but at 7pm and with a fever of 101. apparently, the longer a patient stays in the hospital, the more money the insurance companies take out of the doctor's pockets. so, the greedy btich basically kicked my mom out, yah? my grandma, who's a nurse, was fuckin pissed at the doctor.

so, within 12 hours, my mom's fever spiked to 102, yah? and she was vomiting all night. so, she ended up back in the hospital. now, because her infection is so bad, she's in isolation. when i go for see her, i have to wear a gown, hat, booties, and gloves. the first night, the nurse said my mom had a "peaceful rest." my mom says otherwise. so, my aunt and my grandpa pitched in for hire a private duty nurse for watch her at the hospital.

they say she has a 60% chance of dying

 WHAT!?!? No, that can't be right. Can you get her to a different hospital, or at least get a different doctor for a second opinion? I thought she had a mild heart attack. Where is the infection and whe did it start? I actually thought she was already home.

Dig it, why in fuck would that ignorant nurse send your ma home like that, knowing she had the possibility of getting worse. Surely there must be another hospital your friends/family must as opposed to this festering shithole, no?

Two things: 1)Hospitals are hotbeds of infection, you'd be amazed how many people become sick while there. A person enters for one thing and while there ends up with something else. Always watch as your doctor, nurse, therapist etc. enters the room. Make sure they clean their hands before touching you. Many hospitals these days have an anti-bacterial dispenser located either just inside or just outside the room, when the person uses this, it lowers the risk. However there are still other airborn bacterium and those are equally dangerous.

2)According to his earlier thread: my mom had a heart attack this morning stints were placed in her-any invasive procedure, even with clean items, can lead to infection as there is a moment of air mixing with blood.
they're not sure how she caught the infection. part of the infection is pneumonia. :frown1:

Stay strong, keep us posted on how things are going.

Surfer - i am sorry to hear of this.
with your grandparents, aunt and yourself,
you will figure out what to do next to help
her recover quickly. the private nurse is a
good step to take.
i can only imagine how upsetting this is for
you and your family. remember that you have
many good wishes and plenty of support here.
keep your chin up, spend lots of time with your
mom if you are able and she will be well in no time.
keep us posted.

First of all my prayers for your Mom and your Family Braw. I can relate to where your comming from. Almost the same thing happened to my Dad befor he died. His attening Dr. sent him home befor he should have; saying "We arn't doing anything special for you here" so he never did feel welcome and didn't back until it was too late. The thing I didn't understand is what right did the Dr have to say such a thing.

Sorry to hear that your mom has an infection. And about the mild heart attack etc. My prayers are with you, your mom and your family.

My husband's mother has had multiple myeloma (she is in remission) for over 7 years now. The chemo treatments ruined her immune system, so she can get pneumonia at the drop of a hat. She can go to the grocery store and if she isn't careful about what she touches......she can come home with a deathly bout of pneumonia. We have been in your shoes so many times. I am telling you this because I am hoping to give you hope. My mother in law is 68 years old (almost 69). Your mom needs to be getting plenty of rest so she can get well. She doesn't need a lot of drama and excitement. That is what is hard for my mother in law. She loves to be around her family. She won't tell anyone to go away when she is tired. But it can be draining for the patient if it is like a circus atmosphere. Everyone needs to stay calm and just make sure your mother knows she is loved. The best thing they can do for your mother is to pray for her.

it wasn't the nurse. it was the doctor

First thing that comes to my mind is, your mom's doctor is a damn fool.

it's not her doc, per se. it's the house doc

i saw her today. so has colitis. and get this! this fuckin nurse was so stupid that it took 2 hours for my mom for get her pain meds. this nurse was slow in doing anything and everything. it took my dad for call the GI for get anything done. the nurse said she couldn't get a hold of him. yet, it took my dad one phone call to the office for get a call back 5 minutes later. then, the GI was on hold for 15-20 minutes, waiting for this nurse for get to the desk, despite being paged numerous times! my dad and aunt said they were going to raise another complaint (the first one being how she was released when she shouldn't have been) and all of a sudden, things started happening.

it was then we got another nurse for give my mom the pain meds. pat, the stupid nurse, said she couldn't give my mom percocet (for breakthrough pain) because she was going to have a procedure done. the charge nurse, the one that finally gave her pain meds, berated her. she was all "pat, you know you can give someone medication before a procedure with a sip of water, you should know better"

my dad and aunt spent a good 20 minutes talking to the charge nurse, yah? after that conversation, i guess the charge nurse chewed pat out, because pat came back all nervous and all.

I'm glad to hear that she is well enough to come home. I'm gonna send some good vibes thru the Florida air so that she is 100% well soon.

I'm so happy that she was home for Thanksgiving. :biggrin1:
