Qua of course friends lie... last time I was on an apt at the beach waiting for 2 girls that never show up this was a long time ago.. but w/e we were talking about women etc, adn siize came up and I told him that my penis could not get into a toilet paper roll and he was like let me see it... I was alright, after I got semi erected I was over 7 inches and I could not get in the roll I didnt get hard since I proved my point and he was like damn , thats a big fucking dick...
the funny thing he was like I am around 7 inches or so... I was like cool ( not calling him a liar or anything but "cool" been skeptical... ) so technically with his impression it show that he was thiner than me and much smaller.. no more than 6x5

I, as a straight guy, have been conditioned my whole life to look away as quick as possible if I were exposed a penis. This is something every guy can relate to (if they're young and from my generation, at least): If a friend ran through the lockerroom naked, you look the other way and yell "ugh!".

From the time we are young, we're at urinals and see other penises. My first elementary school had one big, long urinal that ran along an entire wall. There were no dividers and everyone stood side by side to take a pee. And of course boys were looking at other penises out of the corners of their eyes. It was only natural and curious to look at something that is normally covered. But we also know we're not supposed to stare as it's not polite.

The more posts like this I read, the sadder I feel for straight American men and the women who have to put up with them. It sounds as if an entire generation has disavowed the masculine camaraderie of the locker room out of fear of being perceived as gay.

It's actually flipped somehow. Casual nudity was a swaggering, macho thing, something that football players and fratboys did. It was certainly something that my father and his generation seemed to understand. Separate showers (with curtains!!) belonged in the women's locker room.

The camaraderie is still there if you're on a school or professional team, but those of us who aren't, like me, could care about any of that. It just isn't a big deal anymore, we live in a faster paced environment and everyone's into multi-tasking. I don't do it, but I see people talking on their cells and listening to their ipods while they're working out, and then they leave the gym in a hurry.

I joined a gym a few months ago and have never showered there, and I don't see many other guys doing it either. And they even have private showers with doors. In fact most of the guys go to this gym in their workout outfits and never set foot in the locker room. I usually go there in workout clothes, and only occasionally do I change there. I don't need to shower and change at a gym to prove my masculinity or to bond with other guys. I prefer showering in the privacy of my own home. I don't think of it as sad, but a change in times. When I was in school earrings were for girls and a guy wouldn't be caught dead wearing one. Now they're the norm. Most things aren't the way they were.

now in see all sorts of guys (mainly younger guys in their teens or even 20s) who actually go into the toilet stall to change their clothes within a lockerroom! i think the promulgation of pornography without the obstacle of a public encounter to purchase it (thanks to the Internet) has enebaled guys to see many more penises than in the past, and since most of those are large due to the porn industry's standards, most guys start to feel inadequate on their size due to what they think to be average.

I'm not sure that porn has had any affect on guys not changing or showering in public. The guys we see in porn are erect and in the locker room are flaccid (well, most of the time.) Porn does influence but I'm not sure that it would cause less men to shower and change in a public venue. It's more of a hurry up and workout, get out of the gym, and be on your way.

I don't know; I never felt comfortable with others viewing me to begin with so my being nervous doesn't stem from the fear of being percieved as homosexual.

Junior high was when we first started taking group showers. It was the first time I had ever seen that many guys naked it one room, and I was uncomfortable with it. My being uncomfortable was quite normal because I didn't grow up in a nudist environment. When you're not a nudist, the most you're going to see are people in bathing suits, so seeing what you normally don't see on an every day basis is different to say the least. The girls had private showers and the boys didn't. It seems kind of ironic that their private parts are hidden and they had private showers, but ours are hanging out and we had group showers. We were also required to take showers which I found rather embarrassing. Again, when you grow up in a house where there's no nudity or group showers, it's a little bit odd to all of a sudden be expected to do that at school of all places.

In high school there were also group showers, but the teacher never made us take one, so I never took one, ever. There were a few guys who always did, and they would walk around, talk with other guys, and you could tell that they really got off on showing off their bodies. The reason I even say that is because the fat guys and the skinny guys weren't doing it. It was always the same ones. They were doing it because they knew they looked good, and they were showing everyone else who was boss and who was masculine. It was an ego trip for them.

One thing I've noticed from locker rooms is the ones most shy about their bodies are guys under 30 (I include myself in that). In High School not once did I see anyone shower after class, the place would just become thick with deodorant. I know footy players and the like shower, but there are usually stalls and towels are on pretty quickly.

As for skewed size perception, Porn definitely plays a huge role in this. Don't get me wrong, I know that there are some genuinely huge guys in porn, but as mentioned above the world of importance here is "proportionality". From what I've seen many male porn stars are not very tall. They could be above average (7-7.5"+) but that's going to look a lot more impressive on someone 5'8" than on someone 6'2".
