Myanmar blasts aid donors for not giving more - Yahoo! News
YANGON, Myanmar - Myanmar's ruling junta lashed out Thursday at aid donors who promised millions of dollars for cyclone relief, saying survivors didn't need "bars of chocolate."
State-run media criticized donors for only pledging up to $150 million — a far cry from the $11 billion the junta said it needed to rebuild.
First they don't accept then they get mad cause we didnt give them anything.
Should have known those sheisty asian just wanted money.
We should have left them in the first place

I'm pretty sure the Myanmarese(Burmese) military will magically have a fleet of bright new shiny helicopters if they got $11B. Read another news report that the country only had about a dozen baadly aging helicopters so they didn't know of the full damage til recently. But since they are under sanctions and a very poor country might as well as try to financially rape the aid donors into giving you what you want, right?

No, not magically but from the Chinese, who have an interest in maintaining stability in the region.
By late 1991, Chinese experts were helping to upgrade Myanmar's infrastructure, including its badly maintained roads and railways. Chinese military advisers also arrived that year, the first foreign military personnel to be stationed in Myanmar since the 1950s. Myanmar was becoming a de facto Chinese client state. Ironically, shrewd diplomacy and flourishing bilateral trade had accomplished for China what the insurgent CPB had failed to achieve.
One of China's motives for arming Myanmar was to help safeguard the new trade routes through its potentially volatile neighbour. Intelligence sources estimate the total value of Chinese arms deliveries to Myanmar in the 1990s at $1.2 billion, with most of them acquired at a discount or through barter deals or interest-free loans. Military hardware delivered by China included:

  • 100 Type 6911 medium battle tanks and more than 100 Type 63 light tanks (of which only around 60 are thought to be serviceable);
  • 250 Type 85 armoured personnel carriers, multiple-launch rocket systems, howitzers, anti-aircraft guns, HN-5 surface-to-air missiles, mortars, assault rifles, recoilless guns, rocket-propelled grenade launchers and heavy trucks;
  • Chengdu F-7M Airguard jet fighters, FT-7 jet trainers, A-5M ground-attack aircraft and SAC Y-81) transport aircraft; and
  • Hainan-class patrol boats, Houxin-class guided-missile fast-attack craft, minesweepers and small gunboats.
In the past year, China has also delivered 12 Karakoram-8 trainers and 1 ground-attack aircraft, which are produced in a joint venture with Pakistan. The latest batch arrived in January.

Thanks for mentioning China. Everyone seems to mis underestimate that China stills that area. Which also leads to a different story that China will not let got of Tibet otherwise they risk more regional stability

That's true you know. Survivors don't need bars of chocolate. The soldiers need the chocolate so they have enough energy to give survivors whatever spoiled food is left. :rolleyes:

You are so right mercurialbliss! These people have been wiped out of all their belongings. The USA should be dropping George Foreman Grills so that these people can cook healthy, low fat meals. I mean it's bad enough to lose your home but to get fat eating chocolate and fried food would be a travesty. :rolleyes::tongue:

the military junta in Myanmar can suck my balls for all I care. This is atrocious what is going on in this country, and honestly I don't understand why the UN and other gov't agencies in the world have not stepped up, killed off the leaders of the country and then flooded the country with disaster aide.....I know it sounds harsh, but really....whose interest is their "gov't" really looking out for

and another thing....they are getting pissed at the rest of the world b/c the rest of the world thinks that the Gov't there is pure shit. You've got to be fucking kidding me. The gov't is punishing these poor people for no reason. They are more concerned about what the people there think and see. Any non-Mayanmariese (sp?) person should be considered evil, and they if you look at them your balls are going to melt off and your eyes will blow up.....I mean come on people....well at least we have the comfort of knowing the junta will be spending their next life in a nice hot environment...i.e hell
