That's like saying "if the AP didnt run it, it is not news / did not happen"

I thought it was more like saying LiveJournal isn't a credible news source.

The only other source linked in this thread is the St Charles Journal, which I've never heard of before, and so I am also skeptical of. Is there something wrong with healthy and reasonable skepticism? There are bullshit stories like this one all over the internet.

Well I was pulling more from the BBC thing, too Manu of the major outlets seem to only run with AP stories.

Anyway I will agree that blogs are a poor information source. (just look at that Engadget stock fiasco)

They check the sources on those dead cat stories. That's my point.

And so do other news outlets. My point is that things happen that don't make it to the major news outlets and also that big guys so stupid shit too. (CNN is also the network that is being accused of some "fancy" video editing for a recent show)

It makes me feel more comfortable accepting news from them that anyone is bothering to hold their feet to the fire when it comes to their video editing. It shows that they are expected to live up to a certain standard of journalistic integrity, something smaller news outlets and the blogs tend to get a pass on because nobody takes them seriously.

One night on the news in Japan, they had a story about a girl who put mayonnaise on literally everything she ate. I'm talking about using mayo instead of milk in cereal, putting it on fruit and hell, just taking a bag of it along to sip from when she's out on the town.

That's my kind of news story right there.

I found my bosses Myspace and he is a bigger wanker then i realized. I'll never look at him the same way again

That's funny! :biggrin1:

I am very careful to keep my Myspace very "tame". I do have a lot of stuff about my eclectic tastes in music on there, but nothing any wilder than that (at least not for public view). I know that sometimes employers will look up potential employees' Myspace pages. I'm looking for work and don't want to have anything on my page that will jeopardize my chances for getting the job. Nothing there hints at my "other side"...

You can't blame myspace or the net every time a teenager kills her/himself, the story doesn't tell us what else was going on in her life, she might well have been arguing with her parents as is normal for teenagers, she may have had problems in other areas such as school, but its the net that's blamed because that's the easy way, it absolves the parents, her school, her relatives and any other of the people in her life who should have noticed her state, of responsibility.

If you can find a story on CNN that works, too. [/quote]

Your wish is my command! :biggrin1:
Parents say fake online 'friend' led to girls suicide. <---- This link is from CNN.com - Breaking News, U.S., World, Weather, Entertainment & Video News

Okay, guess it really happened. Screwed up story. Still, what does myspace have to do with this? Any story that ever involves something with technology.. and everyone usually jumps on the bandwagon to demonize said technology. It's ridiculous.
