I joined the YMCA where I used to work out years ago. I discovered that they too have converted their open shower area into a four curtained shower stalls. I wonder how this affects morning traffic as there used to be lots of guys showering but now only four at a time can.

Agree 100% Traditionally, locker rooms and showers were literally made to be naked in. Nowadays things are run by a bunch of pussies and spineless cowards who don't stand up to the "Karens" of the world.

probably, but they have also put a couch in the locker-room which would seem to encourage people to hang out there.

The Scranton and Binghamton YMCAs both have gang showers and steamrooms. In addition, Scranton has a sauna.

When did society change the rules about nudity? Better question is why?
There seems to be a fear of being nude or being seen nude that has evolved in the last few years and I really have no idea how this came about. I don't think that homophobia plays into this situation since homosexuality has become more accepted by the majority of sane people in the US. I don't think that the religious right has the social clout to instlll such a change. So what has made young American men so insecure about themselves and their bodies? Maybe it is the lack of early male bonding starting with father and son and through junior high. Personally, I'm glad I had those experiences as I was growing up and it's sad and unhealthy for those men who didn't. It's okay to see or be seen naked. It's okay to see men naked and realize that there's nothing wrong or nasty or threatening going on.

It’s really interesting how societal attitudes towards nudity have evolved over time. I think there are a few factors that might have contributed to the changes we've seen. One could be the influence of media and pop culture, which often portray idealized and unrealistic body images, leading to body insecurities. The rise of social media might also play a role, as people tend to curate and showcase only their best moments, which create a distorted sense of reality.

You make a good point about early male bonding with a father figure, someone who it was okay to be around and feel safe and not flustered. Healthy conversations and experiences around body image and self-acceptance, starting from a young age, can definitely help build a more positive perspective on nudity.

It's also worth mentioning that cultural shifts can take time, and sometimes they're driven by a combination of factors rather than just one. I would’ve loved to have experienced that. We were a nudist household and saw plenty of dads and sons at the camps.

Binghamton has two communal shower rooms and a steam room. Scranton has communal showers, steam room, and sauna.
