Unlike the Puritan morals which America is founded upon (which is probably why there is such a hang up on sex in this country) nudity and the naked body are not sources of evil, immorality and sin. It is part of being a healthy human. And the sauna experience connects people to that idea and to each other.

Yeah, it's a straight guy place. I've been there one time and it was great to see guys being naked among each other without any weirdness. Even the body scrubs in the communal wet sauna room were completely done with a kind of manly perfunctory efficiency that was refreshing. (Unlike lady man spas where draping, tender light stroking massage and scented oils are the norm). It is what I imagine a working men's banya would be like in Russia.

That dry heat sauna was just too hot though. Couldn't stay in there longer than 10 minutes.

Nudity is volatile for me, not scandinavia as a whole. I guess it's not 100% comfortable to anyone, but nudity is definitely part of scandinavian culture.

I've been a nudist for years and have to admit that what's being said here is exactly what's happened with me - you bond with other guys you've never met better while being naked. Since being back in Atlanta I've had the pleasure of joining a gay nudist group, going to nude yoga where it's split 50/50 gay and straight men and going to a Korean spa here called JeJu. As someone mentioned, the Asians (many Japanese and Vietnamese go there too) are open about nudity and follow a bathing ritual. The white and black men there are going mostly for the hanging out naked thing, I think. I've gone alone and with my yoga friends and it's just cool hanging out naked and not being in any sexual situation. I was amazed once when a group of young guys came in and hung out together. They were Russian, however, not native American white guys. They seemed to be high school age too and were very relaxed with the entire environment. I'm glad this spa exists. Maybe more white guys (and black guys too!) get to go and enjoy the naked experience.

This is very straight - with signs to make it clear that leering and leching are unwanted - but i was disappointed by the way everyone sat covered up in (and out of) the hot rooms. som guys were in shorts and i noticed some going to great lenghts to perform an exotic towel dance. pleasant enough but not as relaxing as a german or finnish sauna where there would be a communal shower room (and not the row of individual cubicles here) and everyone naked.

Food here is good - but once you've eaten (and a lot of guys were) you won't feel like any more heat.

It's too bad the Y that I go to prohibits nude participation in the steam room, hot tub and dry sauna. You must wear a garmet. Not even a towel is permited while sitting on the benches. The only time nudity is allowed is in the showers which have dividers between them but are open in front. When I joined you could use those facilities nude. I think a couple of guys were caught doing things that should have been done privatly. So now we all have to suffer. I wish I knew a place where nudity was allowed in those facilities.

Our Y has "rules" posted up regarding no nudity in the steam room, sauna, and jaccuzzi, but luckily they are mostly ignored. I haven't seen anyone doing anything inappropriate, so maybe that's why they're not enforced?

The first time I visited that Y on a guest pass there were no partitions between the showers. When I joined a few years later they had installed the partitions. having experience it myself, i guess the saying is true. nakedness which can also related to purity can bring honesty and stronger bonding between individual.
