She will never have another opportunity to act with dignity and decorum such as the one she had the day she was sworn in, and she blew it bigtime. Where does she get off with this "most powerful woman in America" bullshit? That's called lording it over people, and it's poor form. She's deluded if she thinks she has any real power, anyway. God owns that.

Of course, the big difference between God and politicians is that God never thinks he's a politician.

If she's an example of what the new liberals are supposed to be like, I don't want her on my side. The other guys can make political hay off of her superior, sneering attitude all day. She's been given a sublime honor and a tremendous opportunity, and it would be appropriate for her to approach it with at least a modicum of humility.

Well, she is in the position to make offers that Congressmen cannot refuse but she's not displaying the Godfather's behind-the-scenes-you-can't-mean-moi tack. She's an in-your-face person who shoots from the mouth.

The dems may someday regret their support for her ascendency.

I always find it interesting how powerful, confident women in positions of power in the USA are treated with such contempt by many while their male counterparts get away with murder.

Third world countries have been electing woman leaders for years - it's nice to see you guys finally catching up with such democratic luminaries as Bangladesh and the Phillipines!

:arms:

Now all that's required is for Clinton-Obama to storm the White House...

I suppose Newt Gingrich was the very dignified when he took control!

WTF does that have to do with this discussion? Are you trying to bring some sort of "balance" to it by bringing up something that happened years ago? It doesn't work that way. You're only proving that we've had two Speakers of the House in recent memory who were asses.

Gingrich was an ass, and worse. But if I wanted to talk about him I would have started a thread about him. He's old news. This mouthy, obnoxious person isn't. People don't respond intellectually to what others say. The response is MOSTLY emotional. A good leader (which this woman obviously isn't, regardless or her ideological qualifications for the task) would understand that and use it to her advantage. I lost respect for her as a person when she started spouting all this "power" nonsense. It isn't a case of being powerful, but one of being entrusted with power. Those who entrusted her must have cringed at her strutting, preening posturing behavior the other day.

It does not bode well for liberals.

Stop the presses! Number one, this is not a partisan strike against Nancy Pelosi nor is it an attack of the sexist conservatives. I am a female who happens to be a registered democrat and her behavior is already an embarassment.

When I see a woman in American politics who behaves with the dignity of a Corazon Aquino, a Benazir Bhutto, or an Aung Saan Suu Kyi, she will have my full support, as long as her ideology is similar enough to mine. These women are true leaders.

All Mrs. Pelosi has done is act like a boob. She hasn't lost my support, but she's lost some of my respect.

BTW, don't throw me in with the misogynist tribe. The fact that she's a woman governs only the pronouns I must use to refer to her. I just as readily offer my opinions about male assholes, too.

No offense meant, but politicians generally try to make the most of their position, as a rule, and tend to point out often what their capabilities are and how that position will afford them and by association, their constituents opportunities in the legislative process. It has been a long tradition in the history of politics, especially at points of transitions.

The current head of the executive branch, has been 'lording it over people' since his installation, with a sense of undeserved smug superiority that has made unending fodder for satirists, comedians and the like for years. In many instances his statements have been patently ridiculous, much less demure; how this instance is more deserving of ire than the ongoing heresy under the same analysis escapes me.

The fact that a woman in U.S. politics has made it for the *first* time to the position 2nd in line behind the president is no mean feat. If she means to celebrate such a fact, and perhaps in so doing inspire other women to similar heights and beyond, maybe a bit of a public display of hubris is not unwarranted.

My 2c. You may proceed to roast me now, if you wish. :biggrin1:

When has Gorege Bush ever pumped his fists in the air and posed for a photograph while exclaiming "I'M THE MOST POWERFUL MAN IN AMERICA!!!"? This thread is about Nancy Pelosi and her silly, teenage-girl-at-a-pep-rally EMBARRASSING behavior.

Displays of hubris, especially from people in so-called "positions of power", are unwarranted, and they tend to alienate the opposition while souring their teammates' enthusiasm for the task. If she wants to work with people, the first step is to stop turning them off.

Thanks for your 2c.

Yeah maybe your right but she was always like that! She hasn´t suddenly changed because she became speaker. She was always tough and she never forgot anyone who ever crossed her! And I don´t think that attitude is going to change anytime soon. Time alone will tell what kind of Speaker of the House she´ll evolve into let us all hope for the best!

I don't expect her to accomplish very much and it's a shame, because she has some good ideas.

Who is "they"? She was out of line pure and simple. I am sure her father while being proud that his baby has reached such heights in political glory may be cringing in his grave at the way in which she is presenting her self. Remember folks, one "Yee Haw!" derailed Howard Dean....

It was a huge misstep to be sure. She should have much acted more humbly. She is a loud-mouth (which is fine by me). I also like the DCC chairman for the same reasons--they are different than most bland people the Dems have thrown in front of America.

I was sad that people were fooled into thinking Dean's passion was something to be AFRAID of.

Let's see is she cleans it up over time. I am sure her people know that she pissed off a lot of people.

Ah, as soon as one person points out a politician's bad beginning, the apologists come out of the woodwork...

"It's ok for her to be an ass, because a former speaker was an ass."

"It's ok for her to be an ass, because she's a woman."

"It's ok for her to be an ass, because she has accomplished something."

Here's the newsflash: It is not ok for her to be an ass. Period. If she wants us to know how wonderful and powerful she is, she should demonstrate it by her actions, not bray about it like, well, like an ass.

Ya know, I think we would probably have better people in Washington, if the electorate would just fucking stop apologizing for them.

Being called "equal-to-or-slightly-better-than" Newt Gingrich or George Bush is definitely not something to be proud of.

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand how many people in power can be TOTAL MORONS. Although a MORON who has a sound character and earns their station in life is better than a con man with a high I.Q. Take a look at a few parents. How many BAD parents are there out there with absolute power over their subjects. How many moronic elementary school children have excercised absolute power over a defensless small animal? Pelosi is clearly one of these has-been-thrust-into-a-position-of-power types. I don't see any sound character, stability, or anything earned there. So she sucks in both ways. I don't care. People are stupid everywhere. Lefties (and righties to a lesser degree, unless they crown themselves National Socialists) ALWAYS end up producing tyrents, ultimately. It's their grand turd of a contribution to the world - TYRANNY. That's old news. It's the hidden agenda of magnanimity. And c'mon... it's not about ideas anymore. It's about stupid fucking sports teams. Are you on the left, or the right side of the isle. Moronic MORONS from top to bottom. (Boy, I'm grumpy this morning.)

Amen.

As a life long Democrat and coming from a long line of Democrats, I am not impressed by her nor her tactics. She is rather harsh and her methods need to be changed.
