A friend and I were discussing this today and I thought we could all discuss it too. :)

Napoleon Hill was born in a two room cabin in 1883. He was a writer and interviewed Andrew Carnegie oneday. Drew believed that he had this formula for getting rich and he wanted to research it. He was so taken with Napoleon that he commissioned him to interview all these other millionaires of the time. That's when Napoleon made his first book.

Basically, the idea goes, think positive and you get positive. Think negative and you get negative. It's the Law Of Attraction.

Watch this to understand more.

Napoleon also wrote a series of books called Mental Dynamite, hence Napoleon Dynamite.

According to all this, you're only as successful as your thoughts. Take a test to see how successful you are. I scored a 59. Apprently, I've a good personality and I'm enthusiast, but I don't have a purpose...lol Be honest in your answering!! What'd you score?

Thoughts?

I scored a 52. Which is kinda funny... because it told me what answers I got wrong and right... and most of the ones I got wrong I KNEW I got wrong... but I was being honest. Had I answered them while trying to think of what they would want to hear, I probably would've scored a lot higher.

That's what I did too. So.......logically, if you know what the correct answers are, then we obviously know which path we could take to be more successful, we just choose not to take it. Do you agree?

I agree wholeheartedly. I hate using the word "choice"... I know it's the correct word, but it makes me feel lazy... lol.

I wrote a big long reply to this thread, but then I decided it sounded conceited, so I'll try the condensed version.

I scored a 53, which is "average."

Yet, I'm one of the most successful people I know, in many areas of life.

Therefore, I think the test is not representative of actual success. Rather, it is an inducement to believe one is unsuccessful and therefore in need of assistance (which this organization, quite conveniently, provides).

I took the test twice. The first contained my honest answers which was a 57. The next time I answered with the correct answers and got a 72. Go figure.

The video is not from the same organization as the test. I'm not talking about one organization. The test isn't the point of the post. I'm talking about the idea in general, which is why I gave a couple popular references to go on. There are plenty of other organizations out there that provide more information on the Law of Attraction, other than the Napoleon Hill foundation, love.

Another example: What The Bleep Do We Know
Another: A three hour Nova special called The Elegant Universe

I'm just trying to get your gears going a little bit. :)

Y'know, they say that if you don't earn your first million by the time your 35, there's a likelihood that you never will.

I got a 58. And same thing, I knew that the answers I gave weren't what their philosophy would want to hear. The test should have been made better, like a real bonafide research questionnaire, where no one knows why the heck you are asking them those questions. Also, though I didn't read any more of the site, from the questions I can tell that much of what it seems to preach as the greatest (and only?) means of success, I would highly disagree with.

Thanks Heather for the tests though, those are always fun :)

I didn't take the test but listened to the vid.

Its funny this 'Rule of Attraction'. I told a friend about this site. He told his fiancee and she told two friends and they told two friends...

Nah, but these two read my posts and think they might be 'attracted' to me. I got their email tonite. Now they are in my head, but I'm not in theirs. So the problem remains. Will I like them?

Well, will I ladies?

Don't listen to what "they" say. I get tired of the rubbish that "experts" try to preach as natural law. If the purpose of human life were to make a million dollars...

1) I could just start a porn site tomorrow and be well on the way

2) even better we could ALL start a porn site with the talent here, which I think would do quite well

But personally, making a million dollars is completely trivial to me. I may or may not do it. If it happens, it would be a side effect of something more meaningful that I chose to spend my time thinking about. Measuring success through monetary, or even personal gain, is living an unfulfillable life.

Successful people have a great deal to say about their own success. And of course to the successful success is dollars. Poor souls - literally.

lol. Well put. It is inspiring to imagine living only by the means that you actually need for a modest survival. And if more is made by accident, to use it as best you can for others and not yourself. Thus, giving all of yourself, to the point of emptiness, is the true key to being fulfilled, to the point of fullness.

You girl(s) are chicken.

Maybe I actually need to post a picture here In flagrante delicto? No vote no picture :)

[edit: No response and it might be too embarassing to actually go to the BBQ now :) ]
