Ever heard of the Narcissus myth? In Greek lore, Narcissus was akin to the Abercrombie and Fitch male model type. Of course, he got plenty of female attention, including this girl (nymph) named Echo. Hottie herself, but cursed with the inability to speak unless spoken to first -- she could only echo the last few words someone said to her. Echo tried to approach Narcissus, but he shunned her when they met. The story ends with Narcissus becoming only enraptured with his own reflection in a nearby pool from which he drank; he pined away and before dying, he was changed into the flower of his namesake.

Um, don't get me wrong... I'm an attractive guy, but I'm not that wrapped up in my own body, especially if I'm with somebody else. I'm too busy watching them. :)

But if "narcissism" is a good indication of how Mr. N. acted in his myth, I think it would be pretty rare for guys to demonstrate such self-conceit. I have heard random accounts of people liking to look at themselves in the mirror when they masturbate... but if someone's jacking off and mouthing to himself how hot he is, how he'd want to jump his own bones...

    ...eh, reality check?

H8Monga: I was going to reply first but I cancelled... I like that story. But what I had said was... just watching yourself? That's nothing... :-[ to say I've done it even though I am far from hot or sexy or whatever would turn anyone on, but to masturbate while watching yourself it's an interesting perspective... just don't fall in love with yourself and turn others down for yourself... you're fine.

Jaisin: K, Thanks for the advice. See, last week I was in a hotel and I was alone. I hadn't masturbated for days and they had full length mirrors which I have it home, but mine moves too much. So I decided to jack off and I noticed that I was harder than I had ever been before. I was even longer....Something like 7 inches.....I am black and usually I hear about lighter colored peoples penises turning red, but this time mine did also. I tried so edging techniques and I was able to orgasm without ejaculating. It was really weird, but fun to do.

Ineligible: I think most of us have enjoyed looking at ourselves in the mirror when we were young.

Real narcissism, I think, is when someone puts himself above everyone else, and considers his opinions and wants more important than everyone else's.

I agree, those kinds of people would have big egos.

7x6andchg: Ineligible is right - the psychological definition of narcisscism goes a lot further than merely being enraptured which one's looks...it's kind of an egomania.

I certainly wouldn't think finding yourself attractive and interesting to look at in the mirror while jacking off narcisscistic....

bustyredhead: Narcissism's is not just admiring one's own body. It's when your admiration of self interferes with your ability to deal with others. Like the story, he just scorns Echo entirely because he's too in love with himself. That's what narcissism is; a real problem.

awellhungboi: Most everyone goes through a narcissistic stage in their development, usually in early adolescence or the mid-teens.  It's considered a natural process of ego growth and part of defining one's identity.  It's when someone becomes stalled in this stage that it starts being defined as a pathological condition.   Many of us, even into adulthood, enjoy the sight of our own bodies, or have curiosities about how we may look when we're naked or aroused.  It's when a person would rather kiss their own reflection in the mirror than, say, go out on a date with another human being that it becomes an issue.

Which, I guess, is pretty much what everyone else has said, but I dunno, I just love the sound of my own voice.

    Love it.

Love watching myself while having sex. Mirrors are a girls best friend - to hell with diamonds.

gigantikok: and there really is no big deal in masturbating while watching yourself. I've done it plenty of times, other people do it aswell. It doesn't automatically label you as arrogant or vain or whatever. Like everyone else has already said, those qualities are more defined by how you treat others in regards to yourself.

bustyredhead: I watch myself masturbate all the time. Then again, I guess that's got a little to do with the fact that I can be a klutz at times. I shouldn't have long fingernails... (blush)

FrenchOnion: I've forgotten some of the myth (the Echo part), but the story my Latin teacher taught me was that when he saw his reflection for the first time in a pond in the woods, he immediately fell in love with the man in the pond and leaned forward to kiss him. As he did, he fell forward and drowned. I think the Echo part was that she (who loved him so much though she could only tell him when he told himself) created a plant next to the water that bows its head to look at itself in memorium to him, she being a goddess (or whatnot) of the lowest order.
The Narzissus is a beautiful plant that grows next to ponds and bows its head toward the water.

FrenchOnion: In response to your original question, my dear Jaisin, it isn't narcissism.  Narcissism is a complex psychological disorder that would take a great deal of time to discribe.  In laymen's terms (as used by laymen), an egomaniac in the sence that his only concern and focus is on himself.  It's beyond selfishness.  It's a person who can't see anything in the world (a new bill before the House, a child loving his parent, children playing on a playground, the beauty of a rose, etc) because the person doesn't look beyond himself.  He refuses to look at the world around him.  Think of a person that was born without any of his sences.  A person that intentionally does that to himself is narcissistic.

No, Dee had it right. Narcissus did not fall in and drown; he pined away for love of his own reflection. The gods took pity on his situation and turned him into a flower. Echo was just a nymph; she had no such power.
Incidentally, the reason for Echo's curse was that she was an inveterate gossip prone to exaggeration. She spread rumours concerning Apollo's numerous dalliances and elaborated on them. Incensed at her tale-bearing, Apollo decreed that Echo would lose her ability to speak her own words and would be forced to repeat the last parts of other peoples' speeches without transforming them into the extended dance mix versions like she was so fond of doing.

hawl: Perhaps no one here will be surprised when I say I have not one but two mirrors at different corners of my bed. I forget the exact wording, but now-gubernatorial-candidate Arnold S. (this is not an endorsement) has a great quote from his early bodybuilding days, asking why there aren't more mirrors in America. C'mon, what's wrong with reality staring you back in the face? Can you take it? I'm just talking about masturbation sessions, but if anyone were to give me grief about it, I'd just think of Patrick Bateman's glee in videotaping himself in actual action. It's especially useful when watching hardcore porn (which I do often, again what a surprise!). I can reassure myself that I'm usually in as good or better shape than the "woodmen", that I'm hung in at least the same league or better than the vast majority of them (although I'll admit seeing a few characters like Mandingo splashes a bit of refreshing cold water on my ego and reminds me to take my zinc), and thus that (factoring in my loveable demeanor) the hot female star would probably not have to fake any moans during our scene. I'd say there would more likely be "issues" if the sight of your naked body is a problem for you. Aside from penis size, if you don't see something you are quietly thrilled about, you can do something about it.

joe22xxx: Yes, I like looking at myself, especially when I'm sexually aroused because it's an interesting and engaging image. And aren't we males suppose to be visually stimulated? I also like to watch when I'm having sex with a beautiful woman, but usually there aren't any mirrors around when you need them.
