I am probably naive, but is there any significance to a guy wearing a white coral/shell necklace? Is this an open gay sign, or any other significance? I have seen many gay guys wearing them, and I wonder if it is just for gays, or what?

It doesn't really mean anything unless the shell is pink, or rainbow coloured.
Lots of surfers are sporting that recently actually, infact I usually wear a shell necklace when I'm down in flordia. Now if he's not a surfer, I'd ask him where he got it from, who knows, maybe his girlfriend got it for him.

Honestly I don't think there are any secret meanings with most jewellery nowadays, men just wear it because of it's ornamental value unless it's a badge saying 'fuck me up the batty big boy I love it.'
