So for another class (Culture and Diversity this time) we have been asked to write a short one page paper as a movie write up type thing. Brokeback Mountain was my choice... but I haven't seen the movie in a long time... ok since it came out. I have to identify 3 myths or stereotypes (or a combination of the two) that the movie presesnts... and I'm drawing a blank after one point. The point I have already is that not all gay guys are pretty and femme...

I need two more points please...

Presents various stereotypes based on where people are from - all Texans are good ol' boys, Mexicans are sleazy and over sexed.

Love will survive in the face of all odds.

Mrs. Lex and several of her friends write BBM fan fiction. Hit me on MSN so I can put the two of you in contact. She was an English major and can help.

    HUGGLES

also--the author said "This movie is about the destructiveness of rural homophobia."

Another point (myth) would be, that gay is about culture and NOT biology.

Ennis and Jack do not think they are gay as they really have no concept for what happens to them. Their culture tells them they are butch, and their love tells them they are gay. How do they reconcile that?
(The Matrix can not tell you who you are)

Another: Being gay is about sex. This story proves that it is about loving in a different direction rather than fucking.

Another point is that you don't herd sheep on horseback. You and your dogs do it on foot.

Well, the movie is most famous for deconstructing the mythology surrounding cowboys, especially that hard-bitten and emotionally constricted equal masculinity, or to put it more bluntly that masculinity equals heterosexuality.
