I have a problem achieving and maintaining an erection. I am 46 and in reasonably good physical health. On most mornings I awake with a strong solid wood that lasts until my morning pee.

Just about 12 months ago I recovered from years of crystal meth abuse and tobacco addiction as well as congestive heart failure. Now I live a healthy lifestyle and workout in a gym 3 times a week. I take wellbutrin for depression and beta blockers for my heart. I get testosterone and B12 shots from my doctor.

I have tried using viagra, levitra and cialis on separate days, with poor results. I have tried them at minimal and maximum recommended dosages with and with out food. I usually experience headaches, upset acid stomach, altered vision and a feeling of being revved up. It's not a pleasant way to instill the hope of having sex with my partner.

I wondor if my past drug abuse screwed up my mental sexual wiring. I used to have an awesome sex life. The past months I can orgasm but it takes effort and it's only a couple of times a week at best.

If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate your feedback.

PS I have also tried the herb tribulus (puncture vine). I had hoped it would make me feel hornier - not. My stamina is good and I have the energy for sex, just not the hype or urge. My doc suggests perhaps I might see a urologist. Is it all in my mind?

Thanks for any input on anything I might due wake up the ol' beast!

    Perhaps

Is your testosterone level being checked? The "normal" range can be anywhere from 300-1000+. Normal for one guy may be low for the next. You may need a larger dose. Sometimes, hCG is an alternative to testosterone. It stimulates testosterone production rather than replacing it. I don't think it works if the testes have failed but will work if the pituitary is not sending out the chemical signal to produce.

thanks for the suggestion. I have asked for an appointment with a urologist to be scheduled and I will have my testosterone tested as well.

Glad to see that you are visiting a Doctor. With the situation you describe and your background I do believe that it is imperative that you seek adequate advice and counsel.

A total physical may be in order, but the long term results will allow you to more fully enjoy life.

Congratulations on your turning your life around.

    thanks for your encouragement!

During the last 12 months, I have been diligent and focused on reclaiming and rebuilding my physical and emotional health. Meth, tobacco and heart failure just about did me in. Happily those three things are well behind me. Today I look sexy and feel energetic and capable. I am 6'4" with a buffed muscular frame and weigh in at 205 lbs.

I am feeling frustration though in regards to what might I do to generate or increase my sexual arousal - it is pretty well non existent. My groin area is numb. I'll check in here next week with an update from the doc.

    Thanks.

Good luck to you in your journey.

I know for me, the depression is the #1 anti-erection issue for me.

    Does this describe you?

Low sex drive or Urge to have sex
You play with your cock, but it falls as soon as you stop touching it.
sex more of a chore than fun
sex is just..... sex, no real feeling to it, just following through the motions

Levitra helped somewhat, but the symptoms still existed.

Try working on your depression/anxiety and see how things go.

Can't really help since I use such radically different methods to others (Kinda like Witch Doctor vs. Doctor), so i'll just say I got dysfunction too, even if it's wanting the full 20 hours instead of just 8.

How have I dealt with it?

Sometimes my cock just can't be bothered getting out of bed in order to beat my hands up.

...doesn't mean my hands are any safer :D

My Theory is the Wellbutrin is the cluprit. I've been on Lexapro for anxiety, because of some issues involving 9/11 in NYC (Don't ask boring story) anyway it took about 3 days before I could cum and it took a good three weeks to get my sex life back on track.
If you have strong morning wood there is nothing wrong with your equipment. Try some porn and a penis pump and it will help your self confidence getting back in the sack. Fear of failure and all the bug-a-boos that plague your mind are probably the biggest problem.

A couple of things that need to be thought of is: depression has an effect on erections but even more so would be the bete-blockers. They tend to lower the blood pressure and would directly effect the ability to achieve an erection. With the meds you are taking the ED drugs might not work. You might need to explore implants etc. You are taking the right path with seeing your Dr. first though.
    Good luck

    Cinderain...

First...I congradulate you for kicking those habits!

Second: You must understand that from your recovery, your neurochemicals are also trying to recover. Your neuroreceptors right now are not as sensitive as they were prior to the abuse, so though you FEEL stimulation, in your brain you are not. If that makes sense.

Third, the antidepressants are helping you in ways you need it, but they do hinder your sexual ability.

Fourth: I am also on testosterone and I am pretty well rehearsed in that area. What are your current counts for LH, FSH, Free, Bound, and Total testosterone in your most recent blood work? And what is your dosage of testosterone and frequency of your shots? Although HCG is an excellent SUPPLEMENT to testosterone, it cannot replace the need for testosterone in secondary hypogonadism.

    Keep me posted brother...stay strong!

Thanks for everyones comments! I really appreciate the sharing...

I saw my GP today and asked him about increasing the amount of my weekly testosterone shots. He told me I already receive a moderate amount and wanted to leave it be.

I asked him about the possibility of stopping the Wellbutrin. For anti-depressants this one actually has the least side effects and he felt that stopping would be a better choice in the spring season when the sun is shining again (I live in Canada).

I told him that my libido / arousal was pretty well nil. He suggested I give yohimbe a try as it works as a sexual stimulant. I'll see if this does anything for me.

In regards to my higher brain functioning, my prior addiction to crystal meth, and the building of new brain pathways, nerons and circuitry - I totally agree that it takes time to "feel" again. I have already waited a year for my sex life to wake up, so now I am just looking at all of my options.

The bright side of all of this is that for a good couple of hours I have a good strong woody in the morning just before waking. The down side is that if I try to jack off, it goes flaccid!

Tomorrow I see my urologist for the first time. I'll see what he has to say.

And I have also questioned the use of the beta blockers for my CHF and interfering ED. That is something worth following up on.

    Thanks!

I have the similar symptoms at one time but yomimbe took care of it. Go to a health food store.

No Yohimbe. It can cause very bad side effects some of which include high blood pressure, nausea, dizziness, and difficult urination do to it's ability to cause enlargement of the prostate. A better alternative would be to try natural herbal remedies like Cnidium Monnier, Horny Goat Weed with Maca, or Catuaba. I have used all three with fantastic results after I encountered some difficulty this past summer. I get the capsules from a very reputable source in bulk, at a very resonable price.
I don't know if it is allowed to post the companies web site address on this forum, but you can PM me if you like, and I will provide it.

I'll second the thoughts on using Yohimbe. It is a standard ingrident in many fat burning pills and while it worked for fat burning it also caused my prostate to enlarge and I had difficulty in urinating and ejaculating. The urnination problem was very stressful as I was trying at the same time to drink large amounts of water (1-2 gallons per day)... now try imagining trying to empty that much through a small opening caused by an enlarged prostate and you may understand my frustration!

My doctor prescribed me 6mg of yohimbe to be taken once or twice a day to be taken as a sexual stimulant as I have such a low libido. In Canada, yohimbe is a regulated drug that cannot be bought over the counter and by law it requires a prescription.

I have taken 6mg yesterday and today. So far I have been experienced hot flushes, bouts of irritability, increased alertness and an increase in sexual thoughts/arousal. No spontaneous uncontrolled erections, however I am more aware of my penis.

Thanks for your warnings about yohimbe... I will keep you posted.

I have used prescription level yohimbine three times a day 5.4 mg in morning, dinner and before bed, with great results especially within the hour of taking it, but I am told it takes up to three weeks to get the blood levels up to where they need to be. I have only had the hot flashes in larger doses, over the counter of 8mg.

    Thanks! Great cock tattoos too!
Last night my boyfriend was really starting to turn me on.
I asked him to pull down his pants and show off his stuff for me. My cock felt eager to be stroked in my hands. He began licking my butthole and I was started to squirm in delight. It's been awhile since I really wanted to orgasm, and I did, and so did he. Apparently yohimbe is kickstarting my interest in sex again and this is very encouraging.
