I feel so inane asking this. I know how to do this but for the life of me, I just can't figure it out. Here is the situation:

I have Microsoft Outlook (not Outlook Express) and I need to down load some emails to a disk. I can't seem to find a way to download them.

I know it's just a couple click of some keys but I'm just drawing a blank.

Can anyone help a guy out here?

Thanks all!

A quick way is to copy the email to Word and then save to disk.

You don't say what version of Outlook you have, but the following should apply:

If it is just a few messages:
Open each individual message.
Click on File, click on Save As.
This will open a window for you to save the message on your hard drive, on a USB key, etc. The default format (iirc, I don't have Outlook on this machine, only OE) should be .eml - which you will be able to open with Outlook, OE and some other mail programs. You can also 'save as' text, unicode text or html. Those 3 are more generic formats.

Assuming Outlook 2003 or later:

File > Import / Export
Export to a File
Personal Folders File (.PST)
Make sure you choose NO ENCRYPTION
Compression is up to you.

Then put the .PST file onto a CD, if it fits. This will backup all your emails but they will not be immediately readable. You need to import them into Outlook again using File > Import /Export.

Note that you can move just the files you want into a folder called Backup or something and just export that folder's contents to a .PST if you want.

Right click the Inbox folder icon in the file tree in Outlook and choose Make New Folder. Then highlight the emails you want in the inbox and choose Move to folder...and select the Backup or whatever folder you want.

Depending on where your emails are from you can also choose to leave copies on the server so that you can download then an infinite number of times from any number of PC's. That's what I do.

You don't say what you want the emails for or whether they are hotmail/google/website domain emails. This advice is probably overkill

Not at all...that was an excellent explanation that covered all the most likely bases. Thanks for that!

a cunt's a cunt.
And if the cunt did not kiss kermit.....
well kermit has to be proactive, take the matter in hand, declare a limited war and get on with it( and kiss the cunt, so to speak)
