Hello out there, I am in need of friends and advice to help me lose weight! I left high school (15 years ago) at 320 pounds through my own weight loss using Taebo I managed to get down to 287 in a year or so. Well I went off it and have been yo-yoing ever since been back up to 310 down to 290 up to 292, 94, 98 now I seem to be at 295.8 I am not muscular at all, it is all flab. I know I need to make changes, I want to make changes! I was previously trying to use a recumbent bike and 90's step aerobics but in November I broke my foot and am to stay off it! So I am really looking into ways to start again after I am all healed up and good! I was thinking about getting a total gym. I would go to a regular gym but financially its not in the cards plus with cv19 floating out there it's a deal breaker. So does anyone use or have used a Total Gym? I am seriously thinking about getting it this Friday one that I can use is currently on sale and wanna hit it before the sale ends. Cmon fellas I need your help and insight, I would like to finally go on some rollercoasters!

You're reaching out. That's a good first step! I would forget the total gym and join Planet Fitness or a YMCA and work with their fitness trainer. Most are very good and non-judgemental. Sounds like you (and me) need a motivational kick now and then. A trainer will do that.

So with a broken foot it's going to come down to dietary changes. Period. Even with a great exercise program, diet is king here. You are not going to want to hear this. But I did this years ago and it changed my life: I counted my calories... For a week. It's time consuming yes. But the internet makes it WAY easier than when I did it.

I guarantee theses things to be true:
You will not eat normal because you will be aware of every meal and snack (It's bad in that you are not getting a fair representation of your "normal" intake).
You will lose weight that week.
But you will still be shocked at just how many calories you did take in.

Give it a try. No harm no foul. Once you know your intake, you know where to cut.

With the pandemic the planet has become overweight. I picked the keto diet for me. Still have to watch the volume or number of calories you eat, but it will give you a steady weight loss. I also walk 4 or 5 times a week with each walk being 5 to 6 miles. Work up slow to that range. Gym is worked in 3 to 4 times a week. I pick a time when I would be eating so cut calorie intake, and burn calories. You will lost more from weight training then walking, but will de-stress better from walking. Good luck, just know we all are trying to get back in shape.

I agree with several posters above: your best option is diet if exercise is out. First of all, accept that it will not occur overnight. Baby steps are the first and best option. I weighed 265+ at my highest, and am down to 203 using a combination of exercise and diet. Still have 30 to go.

A good possibility is using what's called "intermittent fasting." That's where you eat only during a 6 hour window, and fast the other 18 hours of the day. I also am following a strict keto diet. I've lost 20 pounds since January 1st.

The other thing is to MOVE. Even if a broken foot is keeping you from walking, begin with small movement. Standing while watching tv and shifting your weight back and forth. Gradually ramp that up from standing to moving around the room. I'm a former competitive latin dancer and I watch videos and dance to them for a half hour or more every day. But MOVE.

Best of luck to you. It's all very much under your own control, even if it doesn't feel like it. I just posted a blog entry on how I'm feeling much more physically fit than I have in years. If I can do this at 60+, after decades of being seriously obese*, you can certainly take control of your own weight and just do it.

(* A risk of being an athlete when you're young is stopping the exercise but not the eating patterns as you age. I'm far healthier at 60 than I was at 40 and 50.)

Keep us updated with your plans and achievements!

Oh I know its not going to happen overnight. See the standing while watching tv is out I have to stay off the foot, or risk surgery, but I suppose I could throw on some youtube videos and move my upper body while in a chair that should be easy on the foot.

Yep, the key is to limit the eating and just move as much as you can. If the foot's limiting your ability to stand, then yes just move the torso and lift the legs while seated in a chair...but move!

I posted a new entry on my medical and sexual history yesterday, and how I came to be who I am at 61. I was in far worse shape than you. It can be done, but stay away from fads and easy fixes.
