YouTube - John Lydon butter commercial

I'm actually quite narked off by this. I mean I know a bloke needs to make a few quid an' all - but seriously! Johnny Rotten advertising butter.

    That fucks me off!

    What 'sell-outs' yank your chain?

Am I not getting something again? Is it being on the wrong side if the pond? You should see the crap on American television. That looks like Masterpiece Theatre compared to what we have to watch!

Nrets - I get the point - but the fact a butter company think Johnny Rotten is tame enough to use is just sad.

Nudey - it ain't the content per se - it's the person. Anarchy in the UK, me hole!

Oh - and I'm an ass - I had 'your' in the title - not 'the' - I always get that wrong...

I know, Roger has six kids and John's dead but his estate requires money and Keith's daughter gets a cut of it, but it was still a hell of a shock to hear these two songs that meant so much to me on TV, only to look up and see them being used to sell soft drinks and cars.

I don't mind Johnny making a few quid from this.I'd rather he got the cash than one of those irritating loudmouth chefs who seem to have a permanent presence on Channel 4.
The sell-outs I really don't like are when a classic piece of music is altered lyrically and re-recorded to sell a product (as happened with Doors "Light My Fire",without Jim Morrison's agreement).

I'm in a good mood tonight.

It's best to appeal to as wide an audience as possible.

This makes me remember when I couldn't abide the taste of butter or margarine or even the smell.

I was bothered for a time when Derek Jeter was advertising cars; but, then I got over it.

Why did it bother you, could he not drive?

After his last post here, I'm guessing not Northland

I don't if he is able to drive. You need to understand the timing. The Yankees, my beloved Yankees, had been eliminated from being in the World Series and there was Jeter hawking cars during the games. It was painful and most irksome.

After his last post here, I'm guessing not Northland

Huh? Now I am configurated-or is that confused?

Apparently, a lot of our sell-outs go abroad to advertise their shame so we don't see them do it. Big stars collecting lots of yen (or euros) and still trying to maintain their dignity....

I think the commercial admits as much when it shows Lydon waving a flag at what is supposed to be the queen's limousine, sitting in a gentleman's club, and wearing country tweeds as if he was landed gentry. It's actually a bit of an inside poke at the establishment Lydon was known to despise, because what Americans may not know is that Country Life is also the title of a gawker magazine catering to wannabe lords and ladies with money but no title (and even less taste). It doesn't surprise me that he'd use the commercial as an opportunity to take the piss out of the snob set.

"People know I only do things that I want to or that I believe in and I have to do it my way," said Lydon on deciding to appear in the TV ad.

"I've never done anything like this before and never thought I would, but this Country Life ad was made for me and I couldn't resist the opportunity."

Yep. It was one of the biggest demises of the Doors. He never trusted any of them after that and didn't think of them as 'one'. It was them and him
    :frown1:

But a man (jonny Rotten) who was so out spoken against the establishments now being commercialized. Its lame of him
