The new bond theme "Another Way To Die" was played on Radio 1 here in the UK earlier today. Its sang by Jack White (of The White Stripes) and Alicia Keys.

Personally, I really like it. I think its very fitting and sounds awesome. I've attached a direct link to the MP3 so you guys can have a listen and share your thoughts!

RapidShare: Another Way To Die - Download

Edit: Sorry, meant to add this link too - streaming full song, for those who can't be bothered to download - Imeem - Another Way To Die - Streaming

Sounds a bit messy to me. Would've suited a Rock voice better. Dont like. Where's Amy's song that should've been chosen? She said she wanted to release it the same time just to say "fuck you" to the Bond folk!

Hard to picture silhouettes of naked women dancing around to this song. It's just OK in my opinion... I think it would sound better as an instrumental piece. Both Keys & White seem to be oversinging, if that's a word. They just seem to be trying too hard to sell it, especially during the chorus.

If Winehouse's single "Back to Black" is any indication, I'm positive the Mark Ronson/Amy Winehouse effort would have been much, much better and a little less "messy." That song sounds like a 007 song! The wailing guitar that starts @ the beginning of the 2nd verse is what seems, IMO to make it Bond-ish.

This song is a mess. You can't hum it, there's no hook, and it's overwrought. I find it eminently forgettable. The best Bond songs (View To A Kill, Live and Let Die, Diamonds Are Forever, Goldfinger, and yes, The Man With the Golden Gun which is a dreadful song but has a great hook) have an affinity for the Norman/Barry score. This doesn't come close.

Its totally different to the "old Bond" which I think is a great thing. People said that Chris Cornells song for Casino Royale wasn't up to much but that song fitted perfectly with the stunning opening credits - Youtube - Casino Royale Opening.

I think its a good thing its nothing like the old bond themes, i like the fact they are distancing themselves from the previous 20 movies.

Ya...I like it. Its big and brassy enough to be Bondy...its a bit booming in spots...and sounds 2008-y. I hope the opening credits show images of smoke, naked women, and guns.

Who cares if it sounds modern & 2008? Thats not what Bond themes are all about. Well, not the classic ones that everyone remembers anyway. No-one remembers the modern Bond themes. They should have a big, orchestral, timeless sound. Modern is not timeless. Mixing genres of music rarely works either. Alicia Keys is too bland & polished to be interesting & Jack White is a disingenuous twat for complaining about the music being used in a coca-cola ad. Like he didnt know about the huge commercial aspect when he took the big pay-cheque.

Despite the fact that these are 2 interesting performers this song is quite ordinary and doesn't have the Bond song sound. Let's get back to the style of the great Bond Songs like Goldfinger, Thunderball, Diamonds are Forever and even A View To A Kill, Live and Let Die and For Your Eyes Only.

I was convinced that Amy Winehouse could've made a fantastic song. She would've been awesome in some sort of scorned woman type of song. This was kinda disappointing to me. Plus, i'm not a fan of Alicia Keys at all..

Diamonds are Forever! love that song and the lyrics...though i only really knew about it when Kanye West sampled it in one of his songs (Diamonds from Sierra Leone). This new one does seem a bit messy, but it also sounds appropriate for the Daniel Craig era.

I didn't like Cornell's song on the first listen but when i saw the opening of Casino Royale, i got to like it alot. like you said, it fit the opening very well. Maybe this song will too?

btw, i think the song in the opening is slightly different than the original single.

I used to love those openings. I'm a Brosnan era child so that's what i grew up on. Slinky and sexy. I think i loved the one in Goldeneye (awesome song by Tina Turner too). Well, i think i loved all of the Brosnan songs(except that one by Madonna. yuk.) Sheryl Crow's Tommorrow Never Dies is pretty great when you hear the full version.

I've given this new song a 2nd & 3rd listen, I think it's the chorus that bothers me... just seems like they're yelling and such. I do, however like the music A LOT! The music is pretty damn sexy. Maybe the "singing" will sound better when I see the writhing, smoke-wrapped naked girls dancing to it... that always seems to make a song sound better...

As far as good theme's I too liked "Goldeneye" & Chris Cornell's "You Know My Name"... However no one mentioned "The World is Not Enough" by Garbage... I liked that one a lot, maybe its just me.

To me, the thing that make all 007 great is that the verses are usually sung in a somewhat understated fashion, then the hook is usually booming and/or dramatic. This Keys/White effort, not so much.

It surprised me how much i loved that one. The opening of the song is great and Shirley Manson has such a hypnotic voice. The video is cool too But like i said, i loved all of the Brosnan themes except for Madonna's. :biggrin1:

Another one i really liked was Carly Simon's "Nobody Does It Better" but everybody likes that one. lol. and then there was also "We Have All The Time In The World" by Louis Armstrong, but i always thought it sounded a bit odd for a Bond theme.

but is this version of "Another Way to Die" that we're hearing the final one?
