HornyVeteranSJ: I'm in Jersey, and McGreevey has done an excellent job. He's done so much for my city alone that no one else even bothered to do anything about it. (The poorest and most dangerous city in the US) As to the question why didn't he say he was bi, he was raised in a very strict catholic family. He lied to himself and his family about his homosexuality to appease the members of his family, church and society. He lived the way he felt others wanted him to live, and he denied himself the truth of who he was. There are plenty of gays in his situation aside from the public office...or it it? I'm sure there are more politicians out there living the D.L. life.
And since Cipel is Israeli, people are speculating that he and Monica Lewinski worked for the Mossad to help republicans gain control of the country for Israel sake. i.e. Iraq war, Iran, Syria, etc. Interesting and so far out there that some truth might be in it.

Being that McGreevey is in politics, he knew from the beginning that being an out-in-the-open homosexual would hinder his chances of climbing the political ladder, in most situations. It's an unfortunate situation but that is the demonstrable fact. So, he knew he had to lead, at least publicly, a heterosexual lifestyle.
I am not familiar with all the facts in this case, nor do I know what McGreevey's current and former wives knew. As we all know, the public persona does not always reflect the private reality. The only person who can say that he cheated on his wife is his wife. Their marriage and what arrangements they have allowed for are between them. No one else has any standing on that issue. So far, she seems supportive and has, I believe, said they are not divorcing (at least for now anyway).
As far as identifying himself as a gay American and yet having a wife and children I can only relate this from my own life: I once knew a girl in college with whom I fell in love. I'm a gay man. It was a strange situation. She knew I was gay. We dated but never had sex, she was very traditional in that respect and new she wanted to be a virgin until she was married. As our relationship developed, there came a point where she asked me if I could give up men to spend the rest of my life with her. I knew then, as I do now, that I couldn't. Even though I wanted to marry her and have children with her. However I knew that if I had lied and said yes that eventually, it could have been years or decades later, I'd have had to have had sex with another man. With that admission, our romantic relationship ended. She's still one of my closest friends. Always has been and always will be. I still get jealous sometimes when I am around her and her husband because sometimes I can't help but wonder, what if?
So, just because you're gay that doesn't mean you can't find a woman who will provide you the same romantic and sexual attraction as a male. It can happen. Human behavior is very complex.

Absolutely insightful, Brit. We don't know what we don't know. She may have had some level of awareness, implicitly or explicitly. Maybe she didn't. The love they have may be no worse for the wear. Unless there's a tell-all book -- that would hopefully be more concise than Clinton's -- we'll just never know.

OK, getting a bit off topic here, but I know now why Golan Cipel freaks me out. There are significant resemblances in his behaviors and suspected motivations to Andrew Cunanan. I didn't know Andrew when he lived here but good friends met him through the guy here that he murdered. It's the playboy, selfish, egomaniacal traits that I see coming though regardless of how I view the reports -- spurned lover, victimized employee, yada yada.
