New site

mentatzps: The new site is very nice, I love blue, this is my favourite colour !

I was surprised at first because yesterday it was still the old version.
However, I agree with lellelind, it is slower than the previous version.

Yikes.. something is up with your DB speed, or the PHP processor, because the sites response speed is bordering on unusable (at times). I'm not sure how many hits you get per minute, but even a slow DB engine/Hypertext processor like MYSql/PHP should be able to support a 15,000+ user site with ease. h34r:

Other than that.. awesome look.. and.. the importing engine you used to pull the DB over from the "old" site messed up the quotes, colors, font, etc, But that is to be expected.

Yep - it's terribly slow. :unsure: Unfortunately, I'm dependent on a web designer to fix the problems. I'm aware of the problem, and I'll do what I can to fix it as soon as possible.

Nicki, you're the only one who finds the new site "unusable". Yes, the photo posting and chatrooms are "coming soon".

I would say that web site speed is entirely dependant on the host.

The PHP processor and MYSql database engine require clock cycles, not bandwidth. For example: If you are going to host a site that is gonna take a TON of hits to its database, then you should pay for more computing power. However, if you are going to host a download site, then you should pay for more bandwidth. Hosting choices are NOT a cut and dried decision to make.

If you are on a machine which is hosting 100 other websites, your site is gonna run slow, period. The bigger a (forum) site gets, the more horsepower it is going to need from the computer running it. Don't blame the web designer... call up your (shitty) host... (reliablehosting.com)

Thanks for the input. I just sent an e-mail to you about this. Basically, it sounds like it's not my host's fault, the problem may be that I'm on a virtual hosting plan. Perhaps I should move my sites to a dedicated server.

Any other techies out there with some advice? Thanks.

Whatever it is, let's fix it or go back to the old version. This thing is slow man....

The site looks nice though, like somebody said, I like the 'no-pornsite-look' of it. Its a forum, and it looks like one. The format I will have to get used to though, but kudos on ya Mark. Good job.
