Hello all was just wondering if anyone here has any advice for me as I want to start the gym for two goals

1) To loose weight as currently weighting 19 stone and need to get it down asap
2) Muscle build, After loosing some weight I want to start building muscle

My main concern is that I am not sure what equipment to use to obtain theese goals. Many thanks for any advice given :)

Your best directions to start are:
1. Cut back on food intake. Particularly, eliminate ALL sugar, and since there's sugar in so many products, you have to start reading labels. Learn to cook so you can control what's on your plate. There is no good reason to have any sugar in any dish other than dessert, and dessert is a luxury that you cannot afford at that weight. Also, no sugar means no sodas, no juices, no alcohol, and no tea or coffee if you require sugar in them.
2. Just move! At this point, choose the simplest of all movements so you can be consistent: WALK, and then walk some more.

In a month or 2, maybe a gym membership will make sense, but if you can't do #1 and #2 above consistently the gym membership is a waste of money.

266 lbs is pretty significant.

How old are you? How is your general health and in particular, your cardiac health?

I would suggest you start with your physician to ensure that you are healthy enough to exercise and then I would seek out a personal trainer that is skilled in working with the obese.

Yes unless you are very, very tall, you are clinically obese...

At your age & that weight, unless you cut out sugar as much as possible (also starches!) you are going to have very limited success. You could also be headed for a metabolic disorder. Please do talk to your doctor.

I agree, a good doctor can tell you about your personal specifics. However, I do think anyone can make some good progress at any age. And I wouldn’t wait till you lose weight to build muscle. The more muscle you have, the faster your metabolism gets at rest. I personally love high intensity weight training, full body superset workouts with weights with only short rests between sets and longer rests between supersets
