I worked in healthcare about ten years ago and I have been working in a hospital for the last six months or so. Any surgical procedure is risky and can have awful consequences, even death. The riskiest part is the anaesthetic, but there is also the risk of infection and a whole host of other problems. Surgery is not worth it, unless there is no other option. I know of some who died from the simplest procedures, and this was a top-notch hospital, one of the best in the State. Don't do it!
Tangent here, but I was visiting somebody in a hospital a few weeks ago and I happened to note that the man next to me on the crowded elevator was wearing a hospital staff name tag, that identified him in the "anesthesiology" (sp?) dept. and that his specific title was, "chairman." If I had the guts to do it then, I wanted to salute him and thank him for what is often an underrated and highly demanding job.
But, yeah, I've heard of (rare) cases of people dying from a 'simple' dental procedure. All surgery carries risk.
