I think some guys pretend to not be sentimental.

That may well be the case. I think sometimes people may not think too much about an act being sentimental perhaps, too. When Rem and I had to do long distance for so long, I had some of my stuff stashed at his place. I was amused to find out that while he was traveling for work he had taken a couple articles of clothing of mine, so where ever he went, he had something with him. If I asked him if he thought he did sentimental stuff, I can almost guarantee he would say no. I don't think he would consider what he did sentimental...

For the original post, lurker, the wreath is lovely and was a great idea. Perhaps something else home made, but cooked or baked, if either are up your alley? I know AE already suggested that, but for a food lovers like me and most folks I know, it's a great idea. Cookies maybe? I know someone who gave home made beef jerky of a few varieties one year...

It totally depends on the person, this is why gifts are so personal and picking them out is so difficult.

I don't like getting anything consumable like edibles or tickets or toiletries from someone important to me because it's not something I can keep. Same goes for gifts that are totally generic and had little or no thought put into them like gift cards : unamused:

Try making him something? The first thing I ever knit was a hat for my bf and years later it's still one of his most treasured possessions

Are you artistically inclined? Even the slightest?

I had a boyfriend in Atlanta many years ago. We had just started dating after we met at a Halloween party. The relationship was new, so we didn't want to go overboard for Christmas. We agreed to give each other handmade gifts. I made him a dried flower arrangement that had a masculine theme.

But what he gave me brought me to tears. He knew I was homesick for Texas, but he also knew he was not an artist in even the broadest definition. He apologized for it, but to me it was beautiful! It meant so much that it is in my office to this day.

Where in Texas did you live? Where is "home" in Texas?
