I see what you say and understand your position, but I don't agree with it.

For example, we had some right wing demonstrations in Germany in 2016. One should have been in front of the dome in cologne. The Bishop didn't allowed it. While I like it that he shows a clear position against racism, I do have to accept that this limited the freedom of protest.

The same counts for "not saluting the flag". To use it as a protest is totally justified and shouldn't even criticised.

There is one thing this whole debate shows is how meaningless the salutation has become. If it's possible to use it as an act of protest and people are so obsessed about it, shows that people are no longer free to choose to salute or not.
So, if everyone is more or less forced to salute, you no longer know what the salute for.

In the US, the law is clear. The right to free speech means simply (and only) that the government will not interfere with your freedom of expression. Does not mean that the government will reserve a public park space (settled law) or otherwise ensure you practice of the free speech right.

If you have a right, the government has to guarantee that you can live this freedom.
But this wasn't the point, but if people should fear consequences.
This isn't just a question of law, but a moral one as well.

That is not true. I have the right to freedom of expression, but the govenment is not obligated to build a stage or provide a microphone.

Trump Is Ignoring Puerto Rico’s Suffering
The administration’s feeble response to Hurricane Maria rivals Bush’s after Katrina.

When it struck the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico six days ago, Hurricane Maria was the strongest storm to hit the American territories in 80 years. “Its force and fury stripped every tree of not just the leaves, but also the bark, leaving a rich agricultural region looking like the result of a post apocalyptic drought,” according to one New York Times dispatch from Puerto Rico. In its wake, more than 3 million Americans now live without electricity or adequate food or water, and under the specter of looting and disorder. Some 80 percent of island’s agriculture has been destroyed, decimating a source of food as well as a chunk of Puerto Rico’s economy. Ninety-five percent of cellphone towers on Puerto Rico are out, depriving locals of a way to ask for help—and crippling any government response, too. The situation will likely worsen as emergency supplies run out and as the local government finds itself unable to deliver support or maintain order across such a wrecked landscape.

'Apocalyptic' devastation in Puerto Rico, and little help in sight

Hurricane Maria whipped Puerto Rico with Irma-level winds, drenched the island with Harvey-level flooding, crippled communications, decimated buildings and damaged a dam that puts downstream residents at risk of catastrophe.

But help has been slow to come to communities where the devastation is described as "apocalyptic," officials and residents argue. Gov. Ricardo Rosselló said the nation faces a humanitarian crisis. He urged Congress to approve a commensurate aid package as the US commonwealth,
already hammered by a prolonged economic crisis, tries to get back on its feet.

The governor joined others in emphasizing that Puerto Rico's residents are American citizens.

Fuck the NFL! Can't even watch regularly scheduled programming this time of year without it being preempted by a pack of animals running about on a field. Bunch of Neanderthals that although have multi-million dollar contracts still seem to need their asses wiped. Somebody release the lions, please!

Ironic isn't it that in religious worship the greatest obeisance is expressed on one's knees? One would think that no greater respect and honor could be paid to a flag than kneeling before it. ;)

Not only that, but look up the reasons Colin decided to start taking a knee rather than sitting on the bench. My computer won't link for some reason, but a veteran teammate of his actually inspired him to take a knee rather than sit on the bench. Anyone who hasn't read about it should Google it. It's worth reading.

Also... Ain't it fucked how Trump is just multiple levels of racist for this? Ignoring Puerto Rico by shitting on black Americans protesting police brutality.

He's a disgrace.

National Survey: Americans Agree with Trump on National Anthem and NFL Protests

The Remington Research Group has just conducted a public poll, which shows two things very clearly. First, the American people agree with Donald Trump when it comes to NFL anthem protests. Second, if the NFL doesn’t cease allowing their league to become a fashion show for narcissistic SJW-wannabe’s, college football will be the most popular sport in America within five years.

Q7: Last week, Donald Trump said NFL players should stand and be respectful during the national anthem. Do you think NFL players should stand and be respectful during the national anthem?

Yes: 64%
No: 25%
Unsure: 11%

Q8: On Sunday, a number of NFL players knelt during the national anthem in protest of Donald Trump’s statements, including players from your favorite team. Does this make you more likely or less likely to watch your favorite team’s games in the future?

More likely: 30%
Less likely: 50%
No difference: 20%
