I'll never understand the view that all violence, under all conditions, is by definition a bad thing. Losing control is bad... Violence is just a tool. Used properly, it is not a negative...it's just a tool. Let me use an example that we will all understand. Spanking a child.
Now, I'm not talking about wailing on the kid, beating them to a bloody pulp. I'm talking about a spanking...for wrong behavior. A properly applied spanking, used as negative reinforcement, for correcting/training behavior, is perfectly appropriate, and a time honored technique which *does* work, and which isn't scary at all.
In such a situation, the parent is doing it out of love! Yet, you could rightly describe a spanking as a violent act. And, because it is being done for a proper reason, and being used as a tool, it isn't even scary.
