Look, we all know Nickelback sucks. I don't think that can be argued. However, the other day I hear this song on the radio. It is super f'in catchy.

I mean, 'How You Remind Me' - that song was f'in catchy. Yes, it grew very tiresome and is the most unoriginal, formulaic, crappy song ever. But man, it sure is catchy as hell. So I look up that album and don't recognize a single other song.

Then, the re-make that song and call it 'Someday' and release another album I don't recognize any other songs from. And that song is super-catchy too.

Now, they're back again with 'Photograph'

How do these guys suck so bad, yet manage to put out one song per album that so many people love?

So, on to the poll. Nickleback. Please try to be honest here.

I like Maroon 5 and Nickelback. Nickelback's album has some great stuff on it. (SteveBear calls them bad Queen). Their latest single "Savin' Me" is gonna be a hot too. My musical tastes run the gamut betwen classic, good and bad of all genres.

I LOVE "Figured You Out." Pants around your feet is ALWAYS a good thing.

Little known fact:
Sorcerer loves to sing. They've told me for years that I have the whole white soul thing going on so I decided why fight it...Stevie Wonder is awesome and the first time I heard Adam belt out his obviously Stevie-inspired stuff, I was on an airplane and almost let out a whoop of joy. I must admit, it's now some of the most overplayed music around but I still like it. Since I've been known to write, perform and play instruments, I respect any band that does the same and sounds good.

Spladle, I probably hate most of the music you like and vice versa so I'll bring a variety for next time we're in bed.

You Can say you don't like their music....but they clearly have musical abilities and they write some pretty decent songs:> Hero, How you reminded me, Figured you out... Someday... Milllions boys and girls.. All great songs.. and I only named a few... Just admit you love them

It's all about hooks. A friend of mine is a singer/songwriter. Most bands aren't very good at hooks and they're lucky if they get one song with a good hook each album. Then to have a worldwide hit is even greater, although some people of course are gifted.

eg Most every Hall And Oates song has a killer hook!! But they have perfected the art and have a group of writers that work on some songs eg Maneater was written by Daryl, John and Sara, Daryl's then-long term girlfriend. Sara's sister also wrote some songs (Kiss On My List and Art Of Heartbreak, maybe more.) Daryl wrote Rich Girl all by himself though.

Anyway other songs with great hooks are When Doves Cry and I Wanna Be Your Lover by Prince. Kiss has a good hook too. One great song is To Be With You by Mr. Big that sold 7M copies worldwide.

Shine by Mr. Big is also an awesome song, the hook is amazing.

Eric Martin, the very talented lead singer of Mr. Big wrote To Be With You when he was just 16 (!). Of course the voice of the singer has a bearing on a song's popularity too. I don't know what the fuck Malcom McDonald is on, he sounds awful to me.

Plus its taking my mind off fucking the shit out of the hot french girl!!

NB: A hook is a catchy lyric that sticks in someone's mind: most song's titles are the same as the hook.

The Most Beautiful Girl In The World is also tres cool.

I like Someday by Nickelback but that's the only song of their's I like. I heard a good song is one that makes you look at something you already know about in a new way, and makes you discover something new about it.

I'm not a huge Nickelback fan as a lot of their stuff tends to sound the same to me, but I do tend to a like a few of their songs (unless they're overplayed and beaten into the ground beyond meaning)

Maroon 5...not too bad in my book overall.

They sell more albums that way. They aren't going to put all the best on just one album and then the other albums not sell any copies because the only one on their that is popular has been deleted.

This is one thing that all recording bands and musicians of all styles have in common: Spread those favorites out so more albums to increase profits.
